Week Five


The race to the playoffs is underway as we near the halfway point of the 2018 football season. Here are a few tidbits from this week's football action around the state.

   *  UMS-Wright has the longest winning streak in the AHSAA having posted 10 consecutive victories after defeating Clarke County by a score of 35-7. Monroe Academy leads the AISA with a 19 game winning streak following a 67-8 win over Clarke Prep.

   *   Barbour County has a string of forty-five consecutive losses over the past few years. They lost to Geneva County 42-0.

   *   The longest region losing streak belongs to Southeastern with a streak of 40 straight region losses following a 20-16 region loss to Sumiton Christian.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 32 straight regular season games after beating Asbury 55-0 on Friday.

   *   The longest region winning streak belongs to the Yellow Jackets of McGill-Toolen with a streak of 29 straight region victories after they defeated Mary Montgomery 17-10 in overtime.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy have a string of 36 consecutive home wins following thier latest victory which was on the road. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 26 game home winning streak.

   *   Briarwood Christian has won 14 consecutive road games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a 20 game road winning streak.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 54 consecutive games after putting up 57 on Keith Friday night.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 238 games without being shutout.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 202 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs sit at 3-2 on the season but will remain in the top ten this week.

   *  How about the Pike Road Patriots? All they have done is win their first five football games after restarting the program this year. Congrats Patriots!

   *  American Christian outscored Montevallo 50-54. The two teams put up a total of 124 points. The game is 19th all-time for points scored in a game by both teams.

   *  Opelika was shutout by Central Phenix City for the first time since the 2013 season some 62 games ago.

 * Crossville set a team record in a 66-14 loss to Alexandria breaking the previous record set in a loss to Scottsboro 63-21 on 9/2/2016.

 * Montevallo set a team record in a 70-54 loss to American Christian breaking the previous record set in a loss to Gordo 69-0 on 10/15/2010.

 * Rehobeth set a team record in a 63-7 loss to Greenville breaking the previous record set in a loss to Graceville FL 62-6 on 10/4/1946.

 * Mae Jemison set a team record in a loss 46-12 to Muscle Shoals breaking the previous record set when they lost to St. Clair County 48-21 on 11/17/2017.

 * American Christian set a team record in a 70-54 victory over Montevallo breaking the previous record set when they defeated Isabella 70-32 on 9/16/2011.

 * Montevallo set a team record in a loss 70-54 to American Christian breaking the previous record set when they defeated Jemison 64-41 on 9/14/2018.

 * Barbour County has lost a team record 45 consecutive games since 10/25/2013.
 * Calhoun has lost a team record 35 consecutive games since 10/31/2014.

 * St. John Paul II set a team record with a 4-1 record. That tops the previous mark of 3-6-0 in 2013.

 * Snook Christian set a team record with a 1-5 record. That ties the previous number of losses when they finished 5-5-0 in 2017.

 * St. Michael set a team record with a 0-4 record. That tops the previous number of losses when they finished 0-1-0 in 2017.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1925 Langdale tied a record by defeating Milltown 125-0. Hamilton had set the record by thrashing Fayette 125-0 in 1915.
