Week Six


The race to the playoffs is underway as we resume region play this week. Here are a few tidbits from this week's football action around the state.

   *  UMS-Wright has the longest winning streak in the AHSAA having posted 10 consecutive victories and had an open date this week. Monroe Academy leads the AISA with a 20 game winning streak following a 34-7 win over Patrician Academy.

   *   Barbour County has a string of forty-five consecutive losses over the past few years. They too did not play this week.

   *   The longest region losing streak belongs to Southeastern with a streak of 40 straight region losses following a 40-20 non-region loss to Locust Fork.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 33 straight regular season games after beating Plainview 55-7 on Friday.

   *   The longest region winning streak belongs to the Yellow Jackets of McGill-Toolen with a streak of 29 straight region victories.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy have a string of 37 consecutive home wins following their latest home victory Friday. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 26 game home winning streak.

   *   Briarwood Christian saw their 14 game road winning streak come to an end as Hartselle beat the Lions 14-7 in overtime Friday. Rogers now has the longest road winning streak among the AHSAA schools at 13 games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a 21 game road winning streak.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 55 consecutive games after putting up 34 on Reeltown Friday night.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 239 games without being shutout.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 203 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs sit at 3-2 on the season after taking the week off.

   *  Providence Christian, Thorsby and Westminster Christian are all 6-0 for the first time in their respective school's histories.

   *  Hazel Green was shutout for the first time in 97 games when they fell to Gardendale 16-0.

 * Brewer set a team record in a win 62-14 over West Morgan breaking the previous record set in a victory over Vinemont 61-6 on 9/27/2013.

 * Pike Liberal Arts set a team record in a win 65-13 over Abbeville Christian tying the previous record set when they defeated Ashford Academy 65-7 on 9/17/2010.

 * Satsuma set a team record in a win 54-0 over Pleasant Home breaking the previous record set in a victory over Sumter Central 51-27 on 9/13/2013.

 * Ezekiel Academy set a team record by defeating Lighthouse Home School 68-14 breaking the previous record set when they defeated North River Christian 58-6 on 11/1/2013.

 * Satsuma set a team record by defeating Pleasant Home 54-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Monroe County 49-0 on 10/20/2017.

 * Columbia set a team record in a loss 63-0 to Huntsville breaking the previous record set when they lost to Fort Payne 57-0 on 10/12/2012.

 * Park Crossing set a team record in a loss 50-16 to Central Phenix City breaking the previous record set when they lost to Stanhope Elmore 42-18 on 10/23/2014.

 * Monroe Academy has won a team record 20 consecutive games since 8/18/2017.


Teams with current school record losing streaks

 * Barbour County has lost a team record 45 consecutive games since 10/25/2013.
 * Calhoun has lost a team record 36 consecutive games since 10/31/2014.
 * Ellwood Christian has lost a team record 31 consecutive games since 9/17/2015.
 * Columbia has lost a team record 27 consecutive games since 10/23/2015.
 * Verbena has lost a team record 15 consecutive games since 11/4/2016.
 * New Hope has lost a team record 12 consecutive games since 9/15/2017.
 * Gadsden City has lost a team record 8 consecutive games since 10/13/2017.

 * Asbury set a team record with a 1-4 record. That tops the previous mark of 0-10-0 in 2017.

 * Chickasaw set a team record with a 4-2 record. That ties the previous mark of 4-7-0 in 2015.

 * Pike Road set a team record with a 5-1 record. That ties the previous mark of 5-3-0 in 1928.

 * Southeastern set a team record with a 2-3 record. That ties the previous mark of 2-8-0 in 2017.

 * St. John Paul II set a team record with a 4-1 record. That tops the previous mark of 3-6-0 in 2013.



Teams that set a record for most losses in a season

 * Mae Jemison set a team record with a 1-5 record. That ties the previous number of losses when they finished 6-5-0 in 2016.

 * Park Crossing set a team record with a 3-3 record. That ties the previous number of losses when they finished 8-3-0 in 2015.



Teams that set a record for most points scored in a season

 * Pike Road set a team record by scoring 229 points. That tops the previous mark of 172 points set in 1928.

 * St. John Paul II set a team record by scoring 168 points. That tops the previous mark of 152 points set in 2013.

 * Beulah last started a season 5-0 in 1995.
 * Etowah last started a season 6-0 in 1999.
 * Good Hope last started a season 5-0 in 2000.
 * Headland last started a season 5-0 in 1988.
