Week Two


The 2019 season is underway. Here are a few tidbits and notes from this week's action.

   *  Something new this year are the AHSFHS Power Ratings. This week's projections are posted on the site now along with the Power Ratings for every school.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 210 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs defeated Florida powerhouse Cocoa 37-23 on Friday night.

   *  UMS-Wright owns the state's longest winning streak at twenty games. Their game scheduled in Atlanta was cancelled due to travel limitations for their south Florida opponent.

   *   Barbour County extended their state leading fifty-one game losing streak in a 54-0 loss to Central Hayneville.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 38 consecutive region games and will begin region play this week when they take on Pisgah on the road.

   *  The Fyffe Red Devils have won 39 straight regular season games after opening the 2019 season with a 28-0 road victory over Geraldine.

   *   Demopolis has a streak of 32 consecutive region wins. The Tigers open region play next Friday when they travel to Bibb County.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy lead all schools with a string of 41 consecutive home wins following a 35-6 win over South Choctaw Academy at home. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 31 game home winning streak.

   *   Hokes Bluff has won 12 consecutive road games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 22 straight road victories.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 64 consecutive games The Red Devils took this past week off but return to action this week.

   *   Fyffe continues to extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 250 games without being shutout.

   *   Holt shutout Autaugaville by a score of 30-0. It is their first shutout win in 169 games dating back to the 2002 season. Brilliant almost matched Holt after shutting out Vina 26-0. It was their first shutout in 142 game.

   *   Guntersville won their 600 game according to our records by defeating Boaz 28-19 on Friday. The Wildcats now have a 600-402-21 overall record since first playing football back in 1914.

   *   Danny Horn has accumulated 300 wins over his coaching career and joins five other head football coaches in the 300 win club this week as the Central clay County Volunteers opened the season at Benjamin Russell with a 38-14 victory. His overall record at Clay County, Benjamin Russell and Central Clay County is 300-86 in 31 years as a head coach. Congratulations Coach.

   *   Coach Mark Freeman, currently the head football coach at Thomson, has accumulated 199 victories in his 21 year career. His team will be in search of that magical 200th win this week as they host Hoover in a matchup of top five teams in 7A.

 * Beauregard set a team record in a 63-19 loss to Eufaula tying the previous record set in a loss to Lanett 63-0 on 10/21/1988.

 * Homewood set a team record in a 49-7 loss to Vestavia Hills tying the previous record set in a loss to Mountain Brook 49-21 on 9/16/2010.

 * Beulah set a team record by defeating Ellwood Christian 56-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Thorsby 64-12 on 9/17/1993.

 * Brilliant set a team record by defeating Vina 65-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Vina 59-0 on 10/15/1976.

 * Grissom set a team record by defeating Lee Huntsville 48-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Coffee 43-0 on 9/8/2000.

 * Stanhope Elmore set a team record in a loss 42-0 to Prattville breaking the previous record set when they lost to Prattville 47-7 on 9/23/2005.



Points Scored by Both Teams in a Game

 * Northside Methodist Academy set a team record in a loss 58-48 to Abbeville Christian breaking the previous record set in a loss to Chambers Academy 49-46 on 9/30/2016.

 * Pleasant Valley set a team record in a 61-42 victory over West End Walnut Grove breaking the previous record set when they defeated West End Walnut Grove 68-28 on 8/31/2018.

 * Wicksburg set a team record in a loss 58-41 to Daleville breaking the previous record set when they defeated Ariton 62-34 on 9/26/2014.

 * Columbia has lost a team record 34 consecutive games since 10/23/2015.
 * Verbena has lost a team record 21 consecutive games since 11/4/2016.
 * Oak Grove has lost a team record 19 consecutive games since 9/22/2017.
 * Success Unlimited has lost a team record 7 consecutive games since 9/21/2018.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Foley outscored their opponents 433-6 in 1961. The Lions were named state champions by the Alabama Sports Writers Association that season.
