The 2019 season is underway. Teams are in the hunt for region championships and playoff spots. Here are a few tidbits and notes from this week's action.
* UMS-Wright owns the state's longest winning
streak at twenty-two games. The Bulldogs defeated Williamson 14-0 on Friday. Team approaching the 500 win club * Brooks set a team record in a win 72-20 over Wilson breaking the previous record set in a victory over Lauderdale County 69-38 on 8/22/2019. * Fayetteville set a team record in a win 75-36 over Central Coosa breaking the previous record set in a victory over Verbena 57-20 on 10/4/2013. * Mars Hill set a team record in a win 70-14 over Phillips Bear Creek breaking the previous record set in a victory over Vina 69-0 on 10/5/2018. * West Limestone set a team record in a win 75-0 over Elkmont breaking the previous record set in a victory over Clements 72-0 on 9/15/1950. * Woodville set a team record in a win 54-14 over Gaylesville breaking the previous record set in a victory over Asbury 53-0 on 8/25/2016. Teams with current school record winning streaks * Chambers Academy has won a team record 17 consecutive games since 8/17/2018. Teams with current school record losing streaks * Barbour County has lost a team record 53 consecutive games since 10/25/2013. * Calhoun has lost a team record 44 consecutive games since 10/31/2014. * Ellwood Christian has lost a team record 39 consecutive games since 9/17/2015. * Columbia has lost a team record 36 consecutive games since 10/23/2015. * Choctaw County has lost a team record 17 consecutive games since 10/13/2017. Teams that set a record for most wins in a season * Asbury set a team record with a 1-3 record. That ties the previous mark of 1-9-0 in 2018. Teams off to good starts in 2019 * Banks Academy has never started 3-1 in a season. * Ezekiel Academy has never started 4-1 in a season. * Lighthouse Home School has never started 5-1 in a season. * Southern Prep Academy last started a season 3-1 in 1989. The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
