Week Eight


The 2019 regular season is winding down. Only four more weeks until the playoffs begin. The region championships are beginning to take shape as teams via for playoff spots. Here are a few tidbits and notes from this week's action.

   *  UMS-Wright owns the state's longest winning streak at twenty-six games. The Bulldogs defeated Monroe County by a score of 48-14.

   *   Barbour County extended their state leading fifty-seven game losing streak in a 60-6 loss to Ariton.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 43 consecutive region games and the streak will continue following a 41-6 loss to Plainview this week.

   *  The Fyffe Red Devils have won 45 straight regular season games following a 42-0 shutout win over Cedar Bluff.

   *   The Red Devils also have the longest region winning streak having won 31 straight region contests.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy lead all schools with a string of 43 consecutive home wins after defeating Macon-East 35-28 on the road. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 34 game home winning streak after their latest victory which was away from their home field.

   *   UMS-Wright holds onto the longest road winning streak having won 14 consecutive after defeating Monroe County at home. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 25 straight road victories following their 58-7 win over Pickens Academy on the road.

   *   Fyffe also has the longest current streak for scoring 20 or more points in a game. The Red Devils have put up at least 20 points in 53 consecutive games dating back to 2015.

   *   Fyffe continues to extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 255 games without being shutout.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 216 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.

   *   This week fourteen teams scored more than 60 points in a game. There have been 78 games among the AHSAA and AISA schools where at least one team scored 60 points.

   *   Barbour County has allowed 446 points through six games. That is a record pace of 63.7 points a game. J.F. Shields holds the record for points allowed in a season with 630 in 2016. They have lost 57 consecutive games dating back to 2013.

   *   Calera was shutout by Opelika 41-0. It is the first shutout the Eagles have suffered since losing 14-0 to Hale County in 2001 some 205 games ago.

   *   Alabama is 29-25 against out of state competition this season. They are 13-8 against Georgia, 6-7 against Florida, 7-5 versus Mississippi and 3-5 against Tennessee.

 * Bessemer City set a team record in a 56-7 loss to Hueytown breaking the previous record set in a loss to Tuscaloosa County 55-6 on 10/1/2010.

 * Glencoe set a team record in a 64-7 loss to Piedmont breaking the previous record set in a loss to Walter Wellborn 61-0 on 9/20/2019.

 * St. Clair County set a team record in a 65-0 loss to Central Clay County tying the previous record set in a loss to Oneonta 65-6 on 10/18/2013.

 * Weaver set a team record in a 62-14 loss to Saks breaking the previous record set in a loss to Randolph County 61-41 on 10/14/2016.

 * James Clemens set a team record by defeating Grissom 63-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Grissom 69-7 on 9/30/2016.

 * Bessemer City set a team record in a loss 56-7 to Hueytown tying the previous record set when they lost to Tuscaloosa County 55-6 on 10/1/2010.

 * Grissom set a team record in a loss 63-0 to James Clemens tying the previous record set when they lost to Bob Jones 63-0 on 9/16/2011.

 * St. Clair County set a team record in a loss 65-0 to Central Clay County breaking the previous record set when they lost to Oneonta 65-6 on 10/18/2013.

 * Fruitdale set a team record in a loss 66-52 to St. Lukes breaking the previous record set in a loss to Maplesville 73-21 on 11/9/2007.

 * J.F. Shields set a team record in a loss 68-30 to Millry breaking the previous record set in a loss to Wilcox Central 76-22 on 11/7/1997.

 * UMS-Wright has won a team record 26 consecutive games since 11/10/2017.
 * Chambers Academy has won a team record 21 consecutive games since 8/17/2018.
 * Mars Hill has won a team record 17 consecutive games since 10/5/2018.

 * Barbour County has lost a team record 57 consecutive games since 10/25/2013.

 * Elberta set a team record with a 2-3 record. That ties the previous mark of 2-5-0 in 2018.

 * Paul Bryant set a team record with a 6-1 record. That ties the previous mark of 6-5-0 in 2017.

 * Pike Road set a team record with a 8-0 record. That tops the previous mark of 6-5-0 in 2018.

 * St. Michael set a team record with a 1-6 record. That ties the previous mark of 1-9-0 in 2018.



Teams that set a record for most losses in a season

 * Gadsden City set a team record with a 0-7 record. That ties the previous number of losses when they finished 3-7-0 in 2018.

 * Park Crossing set a team record with a 1-6 record. That tops the previous number of losses when they finished 6-5-0 in 2018.



Teams that set a record for most points scored in a season

 * Elberta set a team record by scoring 132 points. That tops the previous mark of 115 points set in 2018.

 * Pike Road set a team record by scoring 363 points. That tops the previous mark of 313 points set in 2018.

 * St. Michael set a team record by scoring 199 points. That tops the previous mark of 111 points set in 2018.
