Week Nine

Just two weeks remain in the 2019 regular season. Teams are punching their tickets for playoffs spots. Here are a few tidbits and notes from this week's action.

   *  UMS-Wright owns the state's longest winning streak at twenty-seven games. The Bulldogs defeated Escambia County by a score of 31-8.

   *   Barbour County extended their state leading fifty-eight game losing streak in a 76-6 loss to Abbeville.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 43 consecutive region games and will try once again to end that streak next week after not playing this week.

   *  The Fyffe Red Devils have won 46 straight regular season games following a 62-14 victory over North Sand Mountain.

   *   The Red Devils also have the longest region winning streak having won 32 straight region contests.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy lead all schools with a string of 44 consecutive home wins after defeating Pike Liberal Arts 27-0 at home. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 35 game home winning streak after their latest victory which was also on their home turf.

   *   UMS-Wright holds onto the longest road winning streak having won 14 consecutive after defeating Escambia County at home. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 25 straight road victories following their 42-0 win over Meadowview Christian at home.

   *   Fyffe also has the longest current streak for scoring 20 or more points in a game. The Red Devils have put up at least 20 points in 54 consecutive games dating back to 2015.

   *   Fyffe continues to extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 256 games without being shutout.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 217 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.

   *   Offenses are still on record pace as six teams set records for the most points scored in a game this week. Eleven teams set records for the most points scored in a game by both teams.

   *   This week fourteen teams scored more than 60 points in a game. This season, there have been 92 games among the AHSAA and AISA schools where at least one team scored 60 points.

   *   Barbour County has allowed 552 points through eight games. That is a record pace of 65.2 points a game. J.F. Shields holds the record for points allowed in a season with 630 in 2016. They have lost 58 consecutive games dating back to 2013.

   *   The Hoover Bucs became the 83rd team to reach the 500 win mark according to our records. While many other teams in Alabama have reached this milestone previously, none did it faster than the Bucs. The school, known as Berry, fielded it's first football team in 1963. So in just 57 seasons they were able to reach 500 victories against 173 losses and 7 ties.

   *   Tallassee was shutout by Charles Henderson 27-0. It is the first shutout the Tigers have suffered since losing 35-0 to Benjamin Russell in 2011 some 99 games ago.

   *   Alabama is 32-25 against out of state competition this season. They are 13-8 against Georgia, 7-7 against Florida, 7-5 versus Mississippi and 5-5 against Tennessee.
