The 2020 season began last Thursday night with a partial
schedule of games. Here are a few tidbits from the first week of action around the state.
* It has been a very distressing off season but
finally we got to play some football this weekend. Let us all remember to stay
safe and continue to wear a mask and practice social distancing at all the
games.
* Please bear with us here as some things may be a little slower to appear
on the website as it is taking much longer this year to figure out some of the
games each week. Some unexpected cancellations each week will prove difficult to
find. Some things on the site cannot be posted until every game
is found and accounted for each week.
* A few new schools joined us this year
and two opened the season very well. Orange Beach defeated J.F. Shields 35-20
and Valiant Cross Academy got by Lakeside 21-16. Whitesburg Christian lost a
close game to Gaylesville 28-21 in their debut.
* Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
220 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.
The Bucs opened the 2020 season as the #4 team in 7A and defeated
Central Phenix City 45-35.
* UMS-Wright racked up their thirty-fourth
consecutive win which leads the AHSAA schools. The
Bulldogs opened the season with a 24-6 victory over 7A Baker.
* Barbour County had high hopes to end a string of sixty
consecutive losses this season. The Jaguars will not be playing this season but
will not pick up a forfeit until after Sept. 4th when they are scheduled to play
Maplesville.
* Fyffe has a streak of 33 consecutive region wins
with no signs of slowing down this year even with the move up to 3A. The Red
Devils open region play in a couple of weeks after thumping Isabella 48-0 Friday
night.
* Brindlee Mountain has lost
44 consecutive region games
but do not begin region play for a couple of weeks. The Lions forfeited to Holly
Pond Friday.
*
The Fyffe Red Devils have won 49 straight regular season games. They are within
sight of the 56 game mark set by Prattville a few years ago.
* Fyffe also holds the longest home
winning streak of any team in the state with a string of 41 consecutive.
* UMS-Wright has won 16 consecutive road games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a
streak of 27 straight road victories following a 48-7 shellacking of Lee-Scott
Academy.
*
Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of
consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 264 games
without being shutout.
* St. James fell to Montgomery Academy 24-0. It was the first
shutout for the Trojans in 116 games dating back to the 2009 season.
* Below is a list of the known games that were forfeited.
It is sad for everyone involved with these schools as they were not able to participate this week.
Some will miss out on the entire season.
We decided to publish this only for historical reasons in this most unusual season.
We wish to be as accurate as possible so if we missed anything please email me so we can
get every game accounted for correctly. By our count there were 23 forfeited
games. Let us all hope this improves next week.
