AHSFHS.org Report
(Sep. 11, 2021)

Week Four

Region play continues as teams try to pile up victories in search of one of the four playoff slots in each region. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action in Alabama.

   *  It is not possible to be alive today and not have thoughts about the horror of what happened twenty years ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones on 9/11/2001. Let us never forget.

   *   The 2021 season rolled into the fourth week of games with only three forfeits.
Orange Beach forfeits to Clarke County
Vina forfeits to Decatur Heritage Christian
    McKenzie forfeits to Brantley

   *   Vigor takes on Jackson tonight, Saturday, and I will post the scoring averages following that game.

   *   Sometimes the final score does tell the whole story in a football game. Ariton shutout Geneva County 42-0 in what should have been a close game. Geneva County played without at least a dozen players due to Covid protocol turning the game into a no contest affair.

   *   The Thompson Warriors continue to cruise after defeating Spain Park 49-3. The Warriors have outscored three opponents 217-3. The road may get a little tougher as the next two games are against undefeated teams in Hewitt-Trussville and Mountain Brook.

   *   The Sumter Central Jaguars played their first game since the 2019 season after not fielding a team last year. The game did not particularly go well for the Jaguars as they fell to American Christian 42-0.

   *   The 700 win watch. The T.R. Miller Tigers became the first school to reach the 700 win mark last week and now Fayette County joins them following a 48-0 thumping of Curry Friday night.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 235 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.

   *   Six Number One teams won this week but in a surprise Northside upset Gordo 14-12 so we likely will have a new top team in Class 4A.

   *   Fyffe has a string of forty-eight consecutive victories following a surprising close victory over Sylvania by a score of 16-13 The Red Devils have a shot at the all-time record for the longest winning streak in Alabama if they can win another eight games. Clay County won 55 straight games between 1994-1997.

   *   Columbia with a fifty-six game losing streak will try to break that unwanted honor next week after falling to Muscle Shoals 49-0 on Friday.

   *   Fyffe has a streak of 41 consecutive region wins. Will they ever lose another game? They take on Brindlee Mountain next Friday night at home.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 52 consecutive region games after falling to Collinsville 44-6 over the weekend.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 61 consecutive regular season games. That is the state record.

   *   Fyffe has also put together a string of 50 consecutive home wins. Their next home contest will be against Brindlee Mountain in next week.

   *   Fyffe also holds onto the longest road winning streak having won 18 consecutive road games after winning away from home this week.

   *   Fyffe extended their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 282 games without being shutout. T.R. Miller sits atop this list with a string of 354 games.

   *   Head football coach Chris Yeager picked up his 150th all-time win as the Spartans defeated Huffman 48-7. He is 150-76 in 20 seasons at West Blocton, Jasper and Mountain Brook.

   *   Coach Melvin Pete Jr. moved over from Aliceville to Williamson in hopes of building a football program at the Mobile school. This week he picked up his 100th win over the coarse of his career at J.F. Shields, Central Tuscaloosa, Aliceville and Williamson. He is 100-70 in 16 seasons as a head coach.

   *   Helena and James Clemens both have started the 2021 season with 4-0 records. It is something the two schools have never accomplished previously.

   *   Deshler has found the going tough thus far in 2021. The Tigers are 0-4 for the first time since the 1975 football season. They take on a very good Brooks team next week at home.

   *   Cordova has amassed 599 victories since first fielding a football team back in 1925. After falling to John Carroll 28-0 this week, the Blue Devils will shoot for number 600 next week against Ramsay.
