Comments: Who thought we could be looking at this game and thinking if this could put Hoover in a position to possibly be 4th in the region? Vestavia really hurt Hoover with the run this past week, but this week will be a different challenge as HT will have Peyton Floyd slinging the ball around. He went 13 of 14 for 185 yards and 4 TD's against Tuscaloosa County. |
Hoover, as mentioned previously, really were unable to stop the running game of Vestavia Hills, giving up 354 yards on the ground. The week before they had trouble stopping the passing game of Spain Park. Hoover will need to shore up the defense to avoid falling to 1-2 in the region. |
Hoover has passed the ball effectively this season, but will need to do so against a pretty solid HT defense, led by Parker Floyd. that has put good pressure on QBs this season. |

Comments: This game could decide 1-2 in the region. Both teams come in undefeated in the region, TA's only loss being non-region to American Christian. Lamar Countys only real challenge this year was from a really good 1A program in South Lamar. |
As we have said already this year, as goes Preston Lancaster, so goes Tuscaloosa Academy. Lancaster has thrown the ball well this year and will look to do so against a pretty good secondary for Lamar County. Of course, TA has already played some good secondaries and Lancaster got his. |
Speaking of the defensive backfield for Lamar County, it sounds like a law firm with Bradford, Long and Gilmer making plays all over the field. The offense seems pretty balanced with a good passing game that features WR McKinney and a solid running game featuring RB Godsey. |

|
Comments: This game could establish the front runner for the region crown. Both teams have been impressive thus far. Geraldine relies on a stingy defense that has only allowed 16 points through 4 games. And to be clear, they have played some good competition. Sylvania leans on the power running game, so this could get really interesting. |
Jaxon Colvin is a threat to run the ball from the QB position for Geraldine. And while Carlos Mann only had 40 yards against Hokes Bluff, you can't count him out. He also had 47 in the passing game. Although I don't think we are going to see a lot of passing in this game. |
Sylvania is going to rely heavily on RB Aiden Parham. Don't believe me? He rushed 46 times for 328 yards and 3 TDs against Piedmont. This is where the game will be won or lost. Will Parham take over or will Geraldines defense prove to be too stingy? |

Shoals Christian holds a 11-4 edge in the games played.
|
|
Comments: It is a pleasure to do this game. Both teams have struggled mightily in recent memory. Just going back from 20-22, Shoals Christian has 6 on the field wins and Cherokee has 2. Three of Shoals Christian's wins during that time frame were against Cherokee. Now here we are, four weeks into the season and Shoals Christian sits at 3-0 (2-0) and Cherokee is 3-1 (2-1). Believe it or not, this game is likely to settle the 4th spot in the region. |
Dj Shanes has been putting on a show for the Flame, running for 117 yards and 3 touchdowns last week on just 7 carries. Isaiah Shaw has also shown out from the RB position. They are quite the tandem and will be hard for any defense to stop. Defense has been good for Shoals Christian, only giving up 14 points through three games, but the competition hasn't exactly been world beaters, but as the old saying goes, you play who they put in front of you. |
Cherokee has done it through the air and on the ground. QB Schleifer throws a pretty ball and has receivers like Goodloe and Hicks who can go get it. The running game is by committee, using multiple people like Trent, Dean and Goodloe. There is no better definition of a toss up game, at least on paper. |

|
|
Comments: This was a fantastic game a year ago, with B.B. Comer emerging with a 36-35 victory. Once again, this should be the game that determines the region champion. |
B.B. Comer has an embarrassment of riches that few 2A teams can match. RB Kamore Harris is a stud and has started garnering serious interest from college scouts. But he's not the only playmaker on this offense. QB Devin Harvey is probably the best in 2A. He throws a beautiful deep ball and has a lot of speedy receivers on the outside to target. They have size and agility on both sides of the line as well. Mental mistakes cost them in the state title game against Fyffe last year. If they clean those up, there's a good chance no one will beat them. |
Vincent is a more-than-capable football team all around, but I have to focus on RB Rykelus Robertson. He's just 5'7, 155 lbs, but even amongst all the athletes on Comer, I'm willing to go out and say he will be the best player on the field. He's lightning-fast, a hard runner, and nearly impossible to tackle. In Barry Sanders-like fashion, even if he's largely contained for most of the game, he'll still break a couple of runs that just make your jaw drop. |
On paper, Comer is clearly the better team overall, but that was also true last year when Comer was fortunate to come away with a win. Regardless of the result, I expect there to plenty of big plays, so just sit back and enjoy the fireworks. |

Colbert County holds a 40-34 edge in the games played.
|
|
Comments: This region belongs to Mars Hill, but the winner of this game will likely be the 2 seed and host a playoff game in the 1st round. |
It was hard to find information on Colbert County, so here is what we know about this proud program. The Indians are one of the best and most consistent programs in state history, but they've been down by their standards for nearly a decade. They haven't made it past the 2nd round since 2015. They've really struggled against Lauderdale County in recent meetings, so this game presents an opportunity for them to get a signature win under 2nd-year coach Scotty Hannah. |
Lauderdale County plays ground-and-pound football. Unless they feel they have to throw the football, they'll run it right at you every play. They're averaging 44.3 ppg this year, although the two quality opponents they've played both kept them under 30. They also play terrific defense. Since 2020, they've given up less than 15 ppg. |
Lauderdale County blanked Colbert County last year. I expect the Indians to score this year, but the result should be the same. |

Beauregard holds a 6-5 edge in the games played.
|
|
Comments: This was a great game a year ago, with Beauregard winning by two points. As a non-region game, it may not have much impact on the playoffs, but both teams will be eager to prove they legitimate contenders after being underwhelming in recent games. |
The best player for Beauregard is Juniorr ZJ Grady. He is a 3 star LB, but contributes both ways and is a bruising runner offensively. The Hornets have other players that offer a lot of production on the ground as well, including Jacori Tarver and Jayden Doolittle. Their defense appears to be solid, but is largely untested to this point on the season. This team has some question marks after getting upset by Valley a couple weeks ago. |
Charles Henderson came into the year as one of the favorites to win the state title, but they find themselves at 1-2 after an inexplicable collapse against region foe Carroll last week. They were up 24-7 in the second half of that one before allowing 3 TDs in the final 4 minutes of the game to lose 34-24. This is the most talented team in 5A, but they fell apart in all three phases of the game at the end of that one, giving up a long TD drive, onside kick, and then another TD to give Carroll the lead 27-24. They still had a chance to win after all that, but QB Parker Adams threw a pick six to seal the game. One other note on Charles Henderson, they are in the midst of 5 straight road games. |
This was a fascinating matchup last season, as there was no way to know at the time that Charles Henderson would end up being the more legitimate championship threat of the two. With both teams coming in with a lot of questions, this year's game is equally intriguing and very hard to predict. |

Scottsboro holds a 43-20 edge in the games played.
|
|
Comments: This battle of unbeaten teams is the first matchup between two of the top three teams in this region, with the other being Guntersville. |
If you like offense, this could be the game for you, as every Scottsboro game seems to turn into a shootout. They average 54.3 ppg, 3rd highest in the state, and have had over 500 yards of offense in every game they've played this year, and they had 629 against Boaz in a 63-38 win last week. They have a scary duo of rushers in Jacobi Edmondson, who had 240 yards and 3 TDs against Boaz, and Jayden Gilbert, who had 134 yards and 3 TDs in that same game. Their defense isn't very good, allowing over 30 ppg. They are particularly susceptible through the air on that side of the ball. |
Arab is capable of throwing the ball, but they have definitely found more success on the ground this season. Logan Alldredge is averaging more than 100 rushing yards a game, and QB Drew Puccio also runs for his fair share of yards. This team has played several close games already this year, including narrowly avoiding a massive upset to Sardis a week ago, so they may not be quite as good as I thought they would be in the preseason. |
This was always supposed to be a breakout year for Scottsboro, and they're about to find out how they stack up against the best in their region. Arab has a good defense, but I'm not convinced anyone will be able to get many stops against this Scottsboro offense. |

|
|
Comments: This has the potential to be the game of the week. These two run old school, hard hitting style offenses. You won't see anything too dramatic, just a whole lot of running the football. Central Clay runs the wishbone, and runs it very well. |
Handley's defense has been very good this season, and has shut down many great opponents. Have those previous opponents helped Handley get ready for one of the best 5A teams this year? Handley did win last year, but this is a better Central Clay team, led by Danny Horn. |
I think this will look like a game you would see back in the 70's. Hard hitting defense versus old school offenses. |
I think this will be a close contest, but I will lean toward Central Clay because I think they are one of the best teams in 5A. Central Clay continues their march toward the playoffs. |

I think Spain Park will be very motivated and have all hands on deck following the blowout loss to Thompson. Will Vestavia overlook an improving Spain Park? or will they handle them and continue on towards a most likely second place finish in the region. |

Comments: This is a very important matchup for that Region 4 in Class 3A. While Walter Wellborn comes in with a 1-2 record, that is very tricky. They have lost to two good teams in Anniston and Ohatchee. They just dropped 60 points on region foe Beulah. |
Dadeville got off to a bad start facing one of the best teams in 2A in BB Comer. However they got a region victory over Weaver and Saks the past two weeks. |
I think whoever wins this, will host a playoff game this November. Not sure if either will win the region, but this will help for home field advantage. |
This is a very hard game to pick, but I think Dadeville is slightly better and will get the victory. I will take Dadeville in a close game at home. |
