Haywood Eugene "Butch" Norman was born August 23, 1952 in Luverne, Alabama. He played football at Luverne High School and was a member of the 1973 National Championship team at the University of Alabama. Following graduation from college, Norman played football in the Canadian Football League for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1974-1980. Norman returned to his alma mater at Luverne and accepted an assistant coaching position under legendary coach Glenn Daniel. In 1993, when Coach Daniel retired from the sideline, he had the opportunity to become the head football coach at Luverne. His second team reached the Class 3A State Championship game only to come up short of a title. They would return in 1997 and win a championship with a 13-2 record. Coach Norman retired from his head coaching duties following the 2002 football season with an 80-46 slate in only ten seasons at the helm in Luverne. Seven of his teams won their region title and all ten reached the playoffs. |
