Raymond Weaver grew up in Guntersville and attended Guntersville High School. From a ninth grade receiver to a senior quarterback, defensive back, returner and punter, Raymond Weavers career statistics include 4,994 yards receiving, rushing, passing and returning kicks. He scored 43 touchdowns, collected 15 interceptions and averaged 42.1-yard per punt. He was twice voted All-County and All-Region and was Most Valuable Player during his senior year playing for the Wildcats. The Birmingham Post-Herald named him the MVP on the 1965 Class 3A All-State Team. Weaver played in the Alabama All-Star Game in Tuscaloosa following his senior season, throwing the winning touchdown pass in a 13-7 victory for the North in 1966. He received a scholarship to play football at North Alabama following his high school playing days. Weaver was a letterman in college (1972-73). After graduating college he fought in the Vietnam War before beginning his career in teaching and coaching. Raymond served 23 years as a head football coach at Collinsville and Geraldine. |
