Stephen Hooks attended and graduated from Central High School in Tuscaloosa in 1981. He received his B.S., Geology degree from the University of Alabama in 1985.
Hooks spent one season as an assistant coach at American Christian before taking over the program in 1995 for the next fourteen seasons. He served as head football coach and athletic director for the Patriots.
In 2003 his team finished the season with a 14-1 record, losing to Parrish 20-17 in State Championship game. In 1999, 2003, 2004 and 2005 his teams finished with undefeated regular seasons.
Hooks' Patriots reached the playoffs in all but two seasons at American Christian. He was named Coach of the Year by the Tuscaloosa News in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Westminster Christian came calling in 2009 and Coach Hooks made the move to the young football program. Entering the 2015 season, Coach Hooks' overall football record is 171-73 in 21 years as a head football coach. His teams went 21-14 in the playoffs and 90-36 in region play. His teams have also won nine region titles.
Coach Hooks was named as the 2A Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2010. He holds several roles at WCA and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Along with his responsibilities as a head coach for varsity football he taught 8th grade Bible and was an assistant pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
