The best of the best in Alabama High
School Football over the past 100 seasons.

11/13/1987

The date was November 11, 1987. It was a Friday night like many others in Alabama where home town teams play for a chance to advance to the State Championship game during football season. What makes this particular evening so special is not the fact that Lanett defeated T.R. Miller in the 2nd round of the playoffs but that the Tigers lost the game 10-0.

Not a single player on the current roster for the Tigers was born in 1987. A gallon of gas cost 89 cents and the President was Ronald Reagan. Al Gore had not yet invented the internet and Barack Obama worked for a non-profit organization in Chicago. Bill Gates was a relative unknown as Windows was in its infancy.

Lanett would win another game before losing in the semi-finals to eventual state champion Elmore County. So, what makes this game stand out among all the others is that it was the last time T.R. Miller failed to score a point in a football game. The Tigers have won 228 games and lost 46 during the streak that has reached an amazing 274 games through October 18, 2008. This season the Tigers are off to an 8-0 start and show no signs of slowing down on offense as they are averaging almost 36 points a game.

This is one streak that could continue for sometime in this day and age of the wide-open offenses where shutouts are as scarce as a football game without penalties. If the Tigers were to slip the second longest streak belongs to the Hoover Bucs with a streak of 222 games dating back to 1991 when they were still known as Berry.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Marion County defeated Meek 83-6 in a playoff game in 2012. It is the most points scored by a team in a playoff game.
