AHSAA Reclassification Alignment Updated

MONTGOMERY  - The Alabama High School Athletic Association reclassification for 2012-13 and 2013-14 has been updated to include Pope John Paul II Catholic High School of Huntsville, which inadvertently was omitted from the list approved by the Central Board of Control Wednesday morning.

"Pope John Paul II in Huntsville was left out," Executive Director Steve Savarese said. "They did declare their intent to play at the varsity level in the next classification period after having played at the junior varsity level the previous two years.

  "The only changes that affect classifications are Chelsea moving to Class 6A, and Saint Paul's moving to Class 5A."

Adjustments to the reclassification alignments include:

·         Saint Paul's Episcopal moves from Class 4A, Region 1 to Class 5A, Region 1.

·         Chelsea moves from Class 5A, Region 4 to Class 6A, Region 4.

·         Saraland moves from Class 5A, Region 1 to Class 5A, Region 3.

·         Chilton County moves from Class 5A, Region 3 to Class 5A, Region 4.

·         Andalusia moves from Class 4A, Region 2 to Class 4A, Region 1.

·         Tallassee moves from Class 4A, Region 3 to Class 4A, Region 2.

·         Dallas County moves from Class 4A, Region 4 to Class 4A, Region 3.

·         Carbon Hill moves from Class 4A, Region 8 to Class 4A, Region 4.

·         Priceville moves from Class 4A, Region 7 to Class 4A, Region 8.

Coordinators for each region will be appointed by Nov. 28. No football scheduling meetings can take place prior to this date.

In other Board action:

--Approved Prattville Christian Academy and Ellwood Christian Academy of Selma as new AHSAA members.

--Approved the State Volleyball Tournament financial report.

--Approved all levels of administration above 15 years in coaching in the eligibility requirements for receiving a 25-Year Special Pass.

--Welcomed new staff members Tony Stallworth, Associate Executive Director, and Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association. They replace the retiring Joe Evans and Steve Bailey, respectively.

--Approved a proposal to adopt a C2C Schools' software program that will allow member schools more capabilities for online procedures.
