For The ASWA
Fultondale
senior ArDarius Stewart presented Exhibit A on Friday in his closing
argument for being named Mr. Football.
The Alabama
commitment scored seven touchdowns, on runs of 21, 30, 5, 6, 25, 79 and 42
yards, in a 49-28 victory over Fyffe in the second round of the Class 2A
playoffs. He finished with 28 carries for 351 yards, while also completing
3-of-4 passes.
"I could go
four more quarters if you want me to," Stewart told The Birmingham News
after the game.
For his
performance, Stewart - who has accounted for 50 TDs this season (35 rushing,
11 passing, 2 receiving, 2 on returns) - is this week's Alabama Sports
Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week. The other finalists for
the award are Brooks quarterback Skyler Beck and Edgewood quarterback Dylan
Ingram.
Beck completed 21-of-32 passes for 407 yards and TD passes of
38 and 41 yards and added 10 carries for 33 yards and two rushing TDs in a
45-35 victory over Munford.
Ingram
completed 18-of-28 passes for 390 yards and two TDs in a 41-29 victory over
Clarke Prep in the AISA Class AA title game. He finished the season with
4,182 passing yards, making him the state single-season record-holder (for
AHSAA and AISA) by amassing less than 100 yards more than Cullman's Tyler
Caldwell had in 2008.
The ASWA Defense/Special Teams Player of the
Week is Muscle Shoals' Blake Logan. He kicked a pair of 32-yard field goals,
including the game-winner with 5:45 to play, and sealed the win in the
closing seconds with an interception, as top-ranked Muscle Shoals edged
Pinson Valley 22-21.
The Defense/Special Teams finalists are
Charles Henderson's Quay Mays and Tuscaloosa Academy's Kyle Andrews.
Mays recovered
two fumbles (one at the 22, the other at the 6) early in
the fourth quarter, leading to the only scores in the Trojans' 13-0 victory
over Central of Clay County. Andrews blocked an extra point with 2:49
remaining to preserve a 27-26 victory over Lee-Scott in the AISA Class AAA
title game.
