2013 Week 5
Hayden Moore accounts for seven touchdowns and 430 yards of total offense in a 48-31 victory By Josh Bean
With last week's performance, Clay-Chalkville quarterback Hayden Moore
likely erased any doubts Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville harbored about
offering the teen a scholarship.
With Tuberville watching, Moore accounted for seven touchdowns and 430 yards
of total offense in a 48-31 victory over Pinson Valley. Moore completed 10
of 15 passes for 219 yards and four touchdowns (60, 25, 35 and 22 yards)
while running 15 times for 211 yards and three scores (52, 15 and 60 yards).
"My
coaches told me not to worry about him and to just play my game," Moore told
AL.com after the game.
The
performance made Moore this week's ASWA Offensive Player of the Week, as he
edged two eye-popping small-school performances.
Pickens
County's Jermarcus Brown scored six
touchdowns in a 53-18 victory over Aliceville. He had touchdown runs of 25
and 6 yards, touchdown receptions of 24 and 75 yards, scored on an 85-yard
kickoff return, and added a 55-yard interception return.
In a
68-34 victory over Lynn, Cold Springs' Logan Campbell scored five
touchdowns. He rushed 21 times for 308 yards and four TDs, finished 2 of 3
passing for 92 yards and another score, and had three returns for 121 yards,
including an 88-yard kickoff return for a TD.
This week's Defense/Special Teams Player of the Week is Fairfield's Jonathan
Lawson.
Lawson
led the defense with nine tackles and blocked two
extra points, including the game-tying attempt, in the 28-27 victory over
Midfield. Lawson's kick-blocking heroics edged Athens kicker Bram McGrady
and Fultondale's Khyree Robinson for the award.
McGrady kicked four field goals -- 43, 28, 26 and 25 yards -- in a 26-24 win
at Austin. The 43-yarder split the uprights as time expired at halftime,
giving Athens a 13-3 lead, and his 28-yarder late in the fourth quarter gave
Athens the lead for good.
Robinson scored the game-winning touchdown on a 92-yard kickoff return with
47 seconds remaining in a 34-29 win over American Christian.
"I was
just praying the whole way," said Robinson, who also rushed for 123 yards on
14 carries, after the game. "I kept saying, 'Jesus, Jesus, please don't let
them catch me and don't let me run out of gas.'"
