Cold Springs senior Logan Campbell is the player of the week By Josh Bean
Cold Springs senior Logan Campbell did a little bit of everything in
Friday's victory over R.C. Hatch.
Campbell
returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown, returned an interception 55 yards
on the game's third play, and returned a kickoff 55 yards to win this week's
ASWA Defense/Special Teams Player of the Week award. From his quarterback
spot, he also threw two touchdowns and added 104 yards rushing and two more
touchdowns in the 54-30 victory.
"Logan
has made plays for us all year long," Cold Springs coach Rod Elliott told
The Cullman Times after the game. "He has been explosive for us, which has
been a big thing."
To win this week's
ASWA
Defense/Special Teams award, Campbell edged Tuscaloosa County's Issac
Albaradei and Edgewood Academy's Jackson Tate.
Albaradei kicked three field goals, including an 18-yarder in overtime, in
Tuscaloosa County's 23-20 win over Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. Tate returned
a punt 71 yards for a touchdown and blocked a punt that a teammate returned
30 yards for a score in a 52-14 victory over East Memorial.
The ASWA Offensive Player of the Week is Jacksonville Christian's Daylon
Brackett, who accounted for 565 yards of total offense and eight
touchdowns in a 62-48 victory over Coosa Christian. He threw
for 384
yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 181 yards and four touchdowns.
Brackett's offensive outburst overshadowed the individual performances of
Barbour County's Daquan Guice and Geraldine's Marcus Davis.
Guice rushed for 351 yards and scored on TD runs of 80, 12, 7 and 45 yards
in a 51-8 win over Montgomery Catholic. Davis rolled up 332 yards on 20
attempts and a pair of 38-yard touchdown runs, as the Bulldogs rushed for
724 yards in a 77-43 victory over J.B. Pennington.
This week, ASWA members from
Albertville, Alexander City, Anniston, Auburn, Birmingham, Brewton, Centre,
Cullman, Demopolis, Dothan, Florence, Fort Payne, Gadsden, Gardendale,
Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Oneonta and Tuscaloosa submitted
nominations.

a look at other outstanding individual performances from week eight of
Alabama's high school football season:
OFFENSE
Payne Anderson, Plainview: Gained 187 yards,
including an eight-yard touchdown, on 15 carries in a 39-6 win over
Sylvania.
Wil Appelton, Westbrook Christian:
Completed 15 of 31 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns in Westbrook's
38-28 win over Section.
Payne
Anderson, Plainview:
Carried 15 times for 187 yards and one touchdown in a 39-6 victory over
Sylvania.
Drake
Beavers, Sheffield:
Beavers threw a career-high four TD passes as Sheffield beat Cherokee 37-7
to keep its playoff hopes alive. Beavers finished 10 of 17 for 234 yards.
His TD passes covered 40, 6, 59 and 50 yards.
Jordan
Bentley, Guntersville:
Rushed 27 times for 185 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-0 win over Locust
Fork. His third TD of the night was his 26th of the season, breaking the
Wildcats' single-season record of 25 set in 1995.
Jacob
Bolin, Geraldine:
Had eight carries for 154 yards and four TDs - 22, 1, 7 and 69 yards - in a
77-43 victory over J.B. Pennington.
Jermarcus Brown, Pickens County:
Rushed
for 271 yards and three touchdowns as the Tornadoes, ranked No. 1 in Class
1A, beat No. 5 Marion County 35-13.
Torrence Brown, Tuscaloosa Academy:
Caught two touchdown passes and ran for a score in a 50-24 win over
Glenwood.
Charles
Buchanan, Pleasant Grove:
Rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns in Pleasant Grove's win over
Central.
Heath Burchfield, James Clemens: Completed 21 of 40
passes for 418 yards, 272 of which came during a furious second-half rally,
as the Jets fell 42-35 to Hazel Green. Burchfield had touchdown passes of 72
and 65 yards, and was picked off once.
Brandon
Butts, J.B. Pennington:
Completed 27-of-48 passes for 414 yards and three touchdowns, and ran 45
yards for a score, in J.B. Pennington's 77-43 loss at Geraldine.
Jacob Carroll, Mountain Brook: Accounted for four
touchdowns and 399 yards total offense in the 31-7 win over Huffman. Carroll
completed 20 of 27 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns (6, 63 and 24
yards) and ran 13 times for 50 yards with an 8-yard score.
Tanner
Cline, Northridge:
Ran for two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass in a 54-0 win over
Jackson-Olin.
Dvonte
Crandle, Alma Bryant:
Rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns in the Hurricanes' 59-40 victory
over Murphy. Crandle scored on runs of 64, 39 and 2 yards as Alma Bryant
piled up 465 yards of total offense. He carried 21 times.
Clay Culbert, Boaz: Ran for 155 yards and four touchdowns (3, 13, 1, 13) in a 29-22
overtime win over Arab.
Marvin
Davidson, Leroy:
Rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries in the Bears' 26-19
win over Flomaton.
Gage
Davis, Gaylesville:
Carried 26 times for 247 yards and three TDs, ran for a two-point conversion
and returned three kickoffs for 96 yards in a 43-28 loss to Collinsville.
His TDs covered 14, 68 and 2 yards.
Roland Davis, Florence: Carried 15 times for 190 yards and a seven-yard TD in a 34-30 win
at Austin.
Nathan
Dean, Winfield:
Ran for two touchdowns and threw a scoring pass in a 35-6 win over Vinemont.
Troy
Dixon, UMS-Wright:
Rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns as the top-ranked Bulldogs handed
Andalusia its first loss of the season. Dixon scored on runs of 11 and 43
yards.
John
Michael Dye, Vinemont:
Turned 27 carries into 202 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Eagles' 35-6
loss to Winfield.
Hunter Etheridge, J.B. Pennington:
The senior receiver caught 14 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns in the
Tigers' 77-43 loss to Geraldine.
DeJuan Feagan, Pleasant Grove: Accounted for five
touchdowns and 404 yards total offense - 236 rushing with four touchdowns
and 168 passing and a score - in the 64-25 win over Central-Tuscaloosa.
Sebastion Fendley, Good Hope:
Accounted for all five of the Raiders' touchdowns in a 35-7 home victory
over Cordova. The senior signal-caller was 16 of 24 for 267 passing yards
and four TDs with nine carries for 136 rushing yards and another score.
Jackson Fite, Decatur: Completed 12-of-17 passes for 230 yards and four touchdowns (38,
39, 32, 15), and ran three yards for another score in a 48-13 win over
Sparkman.
Jeremy Frye, Bob Jones: Completed 14 of 20 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns (19,
6. 47, 6) as the Patriots claimed their fifth straight Class 6A, Region 8
title with a 34-17 win at Buckhorn.
Peyton Gilliland, Cleveland: Completed 13 of 22
passing for 81 yards with three touchdowns and an interception and rushed
for 163 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in a 36-32 victory over White
Plains.
Tyler
Glenn, Cullman:
Was 26 of 40 for 250 passing yards and caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from
wide receiver Auston Neal with 32 seconds on the clock to cap off a
thrilling 16-13 home win over Athens.
Maison
Goodwin, Cullman:
Caught 11 passes 106 yards in the Bearcats' latest win, a 16-13 nail-biter
at home against Athens.
Eric Graham, Autauga Academy: Had 32 carries for 299
yards in a 41-19 win over Lowndes Academy.
Matt
Hagler, Slocomb:
Accounted for 313 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-7 win over Daleville.
Hagler completed 12-of-21 passes for 191 yards and two scores and rushed for
122 yards and two TDs on 24 carries.
Austin
Harris, Fairview:
Gained 160 rushing yards, scored twice on the ground and ran in the
go-ahead, two-point conversion with less than a minute to play to lead the
Aggies to a 43-42 home win over Sardis.
Nathan
Harris, Gulf Shores:
Ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more in the Dolphins' 35-28 win
over Williamson. The junior had 130 yards rushing on 22 carries and scored
on runs of 6 and 11 yards. He also hit 7-of-11 passes for 195 yards and TDs
of 55 and 49 yards.
Otis
Harris, Spain Park:
Ran for 229 yards on 33 carries with two touchdowns (7 and 5 yards) in the
34-13 win over Stanhope Elmore.
Terrance Hollingsworth, Berry:
Ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass in a 34-7
win over South Lamar. With the performance, he now has more than 9,000
career rushing yards, making him the third back in AHSAA history accomplish
the feat.
Cody
Holt, Colbert Heights:
Holt threw for 301 yards and three TDS in a 46-20 win over Phil Campbell.
Holt was 19 of 28 with TD passes of 49, 3 and 23 yards.
Hayden
Huckabee, Marengo Academy:
Rushed for 229 yards on nine carries and scored five touchdowns in a 55-7
win over Sparta Academy. He also scored on a 60-yard punt return.
Noah Hunt, Westbrook Christian: Had five catches for
140 yards and three touchdowns in Westbrook's 38-28 win over Section.
Dominique Jackson, T.R. Miller:
Burned Straughn for 270 yards on 18 carries and three scores. Jackson scored
on runs of 93, 3 and 59 yards, all on his birthday.
Jordan Johnson, Vestavia Hills: Ran 18 times for 197
yards and three touchdowns (9, 66 and 13 yards) in the 41-14 win over
previously unbeaten Shades Valley.
Tyler
Johnston, Spanish Fort:
Completed 8-of-14 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns as the No. 1
Toros rolled over LeFlore 49-14. Johnston connected with Sammy Harris on TD
passes of 21 and 26 yards and Kevin Marion on a 31-yarder.
Demetrius Kemp, Demopolis:
Racked up 146 yards from scrimmage on only three touches and scored twice
(13-yard run, 68-yard catch) in win over Satsuma.
Marcus Key, Bessemer City: Ran 17 times for 243
yards and three touchdowns in the 34-6 win over Hueytown.
Tyler
King, Lakeside:
Was 10-of-14 for 238 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-16 win over
Cornerstone Christian.
Everett Lanier, Hazel Green: Ran for 157 yards and
touchdowns of one yard and 57 yards in a 42-34 win over James Clemens.
Jamarius Leatherwood, Sipsey Valley:
Caught a 68-yard touchdown pass, scored on a 50-yard punt return and a
47-yard run in a 56-22 win over Holt.
Cortez
Lewis, Demopolis:
Hauled in five passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns in win over Satsuma.
On defense, he forced a fumble.
Josh
Lewis, Pickens Academy:
Ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 91 yards in a 42-14 win
over Meadowview Christian.
T.J.
Lockett, Bibb County:
Accounted for five touchdowns in a 46-21 victory over West Blocton.
Completed 9 of 11 passes for 137 yards and four TDs and also scored on a
2-yard run.
Oziel Maldonado, Appalachian;
Rushed for 153 yards and three TDs (27, 23 and 4 yards) in a 36-16 victory
over Shades Mountain Christian.
Jalyn
Martin, Collinsville:
Carried 23 times for 274 yards and three touchdowns and caught four passes
for 82 yards as Collinsville downed Gaylesville 43-28. Martin's 22-yard TD
with 4:35 to go sealed the win after Gaylesville had pulled to within 36-28.
Martin's other TDs covered 73 and 68 yards.
Herman McKenzie, Tallassee: Had 233 yards rushing
with touchdowns of 28 and 75 yards in a 49-17 win over St. James, while
playing on an injured ankle.
Tykwane
Meniefield, Beauregard:
Hauled in three receiving touchdowns and 152 receiving yards in a 70-21 win
over ACA. He added a 13-yard rushing score.
Dillon Miller, West Limestone: Rushed for 201 yards
and five touchdowns (6, 8, 16, 5 and 20) on 23 carries in a 47-33 win over
Priceville.
Hayden
Moore, Clay-Chalkville:
Accounted for four touchdowns (7, 71 and 19 passing, and a 25-yard run) on
11 of 17 passing for 175
yards in the 38-21 win over Huntsville.
Kyle Nalls, Fayette County:
Scored on runs of 85 and 55 yards in a 21-17 win over American Christian.
Marlon Oliver, Walker:
Had 219 yards on 38 carries and three touchdowns in 28-21 win at Mortimer
Jordan.
Ko Powell, Oneonta:
Completed 14 of 16 passes for 284 yards and four touchdowns in a 65-6
victory over St. Clair County. His touchdown tosses covered 43, 34, 52, and
11 yards.
T.J. Reed, Daphne:
Ran for 152 yards and four
touchdowns as the Trojans beat rival Fairhope 35-13 to clinch the Class 6A,
Region 2 title. Reed scored on runs of 3, 3, 38 and 4 yards on 17 carries.
Ramsey
Rigby, Elba:
Completed 15-of-17 passing for 297 yards and four TDs in Elba's 43-0 win
over Calhoun. The TD passes covered 28, 17, 39 and 5 yards.
Tyler
Rogers, Mobile Christian:
Rushed for 260 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in a 28-18 loss to
Washington County. Rogers scored on runs of 64 and 5 yards and also caught a
36-yard TD pass from Jordan Aubrey. He also had a 49-yard kickoff return.
Justin
Scott, Hamilton:
Scott threw a career-high five touchdown passes and rushed for 94 yards to
lead Hamilton past Winston County 42-7. Hamilton finished with 245 yards on
12 of 19 passing. His TD passes went for 8, 70, 21, 5 and 46 yards.
Will
Scott, Sardis:
Finished 27-of-40 passing for 366 yards and four touchdowns in a 43-42 loss
to Fairview.
Steven
Shepherd, Foley:
Rushed for 258 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries as the Lions
remained in the thick of the Class 6A, Region 2 playoff race with a 65-34
win at Northview.
Ito
Smith, McGill-Toolen:
Rushed for 145 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns on 17 carries in
McGill's 45-14 Class 6A, Region 1 win at Baker. Smith scored on runs of 64
and 35 yards.
Denard
Spears, Piedmont:
Caught 11 passes for 144 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown, in a 40-15
loss at Saks.
Tez Spencer, Fairfield: Ran 17 times for 193 yards and three touchdowns (2, 6 and 90
yards) all in the first half of the 53-11 win over Paul Bryant.
Dylan Stone, Glencoe:
Rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns to go along with two passing
scores to lead Glencoe past Susan Moore 42-14.
Virgil Studdard, Center
Point:
Ran for 148 yards on eight carries (18.5 yards a carry) and four touchdowns
(1, 23, 76 and 3 yards) in the 44-6 win over Hayden.
Racean Thomas, Oxford: Rushed 20 times for 230 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-0 win
over Albertville. Thomas sat out the fourth quarter.
Devan
Totherow, Geraldine:
Picked up 167 on 12 attempts and rushed for three TDs - 1, 55 and 25 yards -
in a 77-43 victory over J.B. Pennington.
Trent
Trash, Fyffe:
Ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns, including 164 in the first half, as
the Red Devils clinched the Class 2A, Region 7 championship with a 47-28 win
over North Sand Mountain. Thrash scored on runs of 67, 9 and 1 yards.
Desmon
Turner, Fort Payne:
Carried
seven times for 114 yards and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 57
yards and two scores as Fort Payne shut out A.P. Brewer 35-0. Turner scored
on runs of 1 and 53 yards and hauled in scoring passes of 15 and 30 yards.
Zacc
Weldon, G.W. Long:
Rushed for 228 yards and four TDs on 14 carries as Long broke away from a
20-20 first-quarter tie out to a 61-20 win over Houston County.
Brody
White, Crossville:
Ran 17 times for 161 yards and two touchdowns and was 6-of-8 passing for 153
yards and two scores in a 35-19 win over Douglas. White ran 7 and 66 yards
for TDs, and he threw scoring passes of 60 and 58 yards.
Johnathan Wiley, Evangel Christian:
Scored three touchdowns of more than 70 yards in a 36-6 win over Crenshaw
Christian. Caught TD passes of 72 and 84 yards and had a 78-yard TD run. Aleric Williams, Southside-Gadsden: Ran for 157 yards on nine carries and scored on a 65-yard touchdown run to help lead Southside past Etowah 21-17 to clinch the Class 5A, Region 7 title. He had runs of 50 and 40 yards in the fourth quarter to set up other touchdowns and erase a 17-7 deficit, and helped the Panthers take their first region/area title since 1980.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS
Luke
Broadus, Daphne:
Recorded 17 tackles in 35-13 victory over Fairhope.
Caleb
Butler, Enterprise:
Was in on 18 tackles, 13 solos, with a sack, in a 24-21 win over
Robertsdale.
Rodney
Carroll, Benjamin Russell:
Scored on a 92-yard kickoff return in a 52-7 win over Carroll-Ozark.
Kalan
Coachman, Cottonwood:
Had two interceptions, including one in the end zone in the game's final
minute, and four tackles in a 30-23 win over Samson.
Garrett
Daffron, Providence Christian:
Was in on 17 tackles, including 12 solos and one for a loss, in a 28-6 win
over Ariton.
Chase
Garrett, Sand Rock:
Picked off a pair of passes and also rushed for a 25-yard touchdown in the
Wildcats' 42-16 victory over West End.
Shaun Dion Hamilton, Carver-Montgomery:
Made 15 tackles (nine solos, six assists), including 4 1/2 for loss, in a
41-7 win at Smiths Station. The Wolverines held Smiths Station to 105 yards
below its rushing average.
Octaviuse Hardrick, Cottonwood:
Was in on 16 tackles, 13 solos, and had four receptions for 100 yards and
two touchdowns (28 and 51 yards), both in the second half, in a 30-23 win
over Samson.
Timothy
Hawkins, Weaver:
Intercepted two passes in a 28-7 win over Ashville. On offense, he threw a
touchdown pass and rushed for two scores.
Ben
Ivey, Spring Garden:
Returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown in a 42-20 loss to Donoho.
Tanner
Holcomb, Hackleburg:
Had a fumble recovery, an interception, one tackle for loss and caught a
31-yard TD pass as Panthers beat Shoals Christian 30-20 to clinch second
place in Class 1A, Region 9. Both of his takeaways set up Hackleburg
touchdowns.
Koby Littrell, Brooks: Sealed a 24-7 at Central-Florence with a 35-yard fumble return
for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Draequon Murphy, Carver-Montgomery:
Returned an interception 60 yards for one of his three touchdowns in a 41-7
win at Smiths Station. Also caught six passes for 34 yards and a touchdown
and carried three times for 25 yards and a score.
Colton Parton, Madison County: Recorded 18 tackles in
a 42-6 win at Ardmore.
Charles
Phalo, Blount:
Intercepted a pass and returned it 12 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in
the fourth quarter of the Leopards' 20-16 win at Theodore.
Cade
Stinnett, Enterprise:
Kicked a game-winning, 29-yard field goal with three seconds to go to lift
the Wildcats to a 24-21 win over Robertsdale. Stinnett was also 3-of-3 on
extra points.
Bailey
Strong, Fairview:
Pulled down an interception in Sardis' end zone in the final seconds to seal
the deal in a 43-42 victory over Sardis for the team's fourth win of the
season.
