Week 10

The 2013 regular season is complete. On to the second season and the state playoffs. Here are a few tidbits from the final regular season weekend of high school football action.

   *  Hoover tuned up for the playoffs with a 29-7 victory over a good Opelika team on Thursday night. The Bucs lead the AHSAA schools with a twenty-five game unbeaten streak. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA schools with a 42 game winning streak after a 57-0 victory over Lyman Ward on Friday.

   *   Butler once again leads the AHSAA with the longest losing streak in the state with a string of twenty-nine consecutive losses. They are followed closely by Red Level (26), Bullock County (25) and Woodville (25).

   *   Bullock County has lost 32 consecutive region games to lead the state with that unwanted honor.

   *  Muscle Shoals lost to Bob Jones by a score of 24-23. They give up their state leading consecutive regular season winning streak after a string of twenty-four games. Well, if you guess Hoover as the team to take over the lead, you would be 100% correct. The Bucs have a twenty-one game regular season winning streak. They are joined by Edgewood Academy with a streak of 33 games in the AISA.

   *  Tanner took the week off. They maintain their streak of 35 consecutive region wins. In the AISA, Monroe Academy continues a streak of 34 games.

   *  Maplesville leads for most consecutive home wins with a streak of 32 games after 49-7 win over Marbury at home. Dadeville (31), Hoover (30) and Tanner (30) are close behind after this week's action. All four teams host playoff games next week.

   *  T.R. Miller Tigers continued their string of 339 games without being shutout following a 27-6 win over Class 1A power Sweet Water.

Milestones

   *   John Mothershed won his 200th game as a head football coach. His overall record is 200-52 in 19 seasons at Deshler. The Tigers defeated North Jackson 49-20 for the milestone victory.

   *   Hal Riddle reached the 150 win mark when the Huskies beat Gadsden City 17-14 on Friday night. His overall record at Erwin, Mortimer Jordan, Clay-Chalkville and Hewitt-Trussville is 150-89 in 21 seasons at the helm.

   *  Larry Strain, the head football coach at Woodland, won his 100th game as a head coach. The Bobcats defeated Cleburne County 21-14 to reach the milestone. Coach Strain's overall record is 100-77 in fifteen seasons at Woodland.

   *  Ken Adams also joined the 100 win club when the Bulldogs defeated Winfield by a score of 35-10. Coach Adams overall record stands at 100-84 in 17 seasons at Calera, Ardmore and Lamar County.
