Week 3

Three games into the 2013 season and the best teams are beginning to rise to the top. Here are a few tidbits from the third week of high school football action. 

   *  Hoover continued their winning ways with a 63-0 shutout of Jackson-Olin. The Bucs lead the AHSAA schools with a eighteen game winning streak. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA schools with a 35 game winning streak after defeating Lakeside 62-20 on Friday.

   *   The Central Hayneville Lions have lost 54 consecutive games following their 57-18 loss to Elba. Central has also lost 39 consecutive region games in a row.

   *  Piedmont continues their regular season winning streak with a string of 26 games following a 41-7 thumping of Glencoe. They are joined by Edgewood Academy with a streak of 26 games in the AISA.

   *  Tanner starts to roll with a 49-13 win over Cherokee and maintains their streak of 30 consecutive region wins. In the AISA, Monroe Academy continues a streak of 29 games.

   *  Maplesville leads for most consecutive home wins in a row with a streak of 28 games. Dadeville (27), Hoover (27) and Tanner (27) are close behind.

   *  T.R. Miller Tigers continued their string of 332 games without being shutout.

   *   Edgewood Academy has scored at least 30 points in a game for an amazing 30 games in a row. That is an all-time state record. The longest streak in the AHSAA is held by Sweet Water between 2007-08 with a streak of 22 games.



Did you know?

   *  Falkville outscored their first two opponents by a combined score of 167-6 by beating Southeastern 49-0, Shades Mountain Christian 69-0 and Appalachian 49-6.



Milestones

   *  Shades Valley reached a milestone with their 500th win over the weekend. The Mounties have an all-time record of 500-371-33 according to the records at AHSFHS.org.

   *  Buddy Anderson picked up his 300th career win as a head football coach in 36 seasons at Vestavia Hills. The Rebels defeated Huffman 30-8 at Lawson Field in Birmingham. Next up for Coach Anderson will be the magic number of 310 which will make him the winningest high school football coach in Alabama.

   *  Billy Hamilton won his 200th game as a head football coach at Clarke Prep and Grove Hill Academy. His career has spanned the past 29 seasons.

   *  Mark Britton reached his 125th win as the Cullman Bearcats beat West Point 35-14 on Thursday night.

   *  Dale Jeffreys also picked up his 125th head coaching win when the Colbert County Indians defeated West Morgan 55-0.

* Kingwood Christian set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating Glenwood Academy 69-49.
* Maplesville set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating Sunshine 75-0.
* Walter Wellborn set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating Victory Christian 78-0.

* Glenwood Academy set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Kingwood Christian 49-69.
* John Essex set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Marengo 14-86.
* Lynn set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Pickens County 12-78.
* Baldwin County set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Enterprise 7-62.
* Victory Christian set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Walter Wellborn 0-78.
