Someone asked a few weeks ago if I knew a team's record against top ten teams all-time. The answer was no, but it got me to thinking about the possibility of finding out the answer to that question.

After some work, thought, script writing and a some digging, we have added that feature to each team's home page. It can be seen in the right column midway down the page.

There is also a link under "Rankings" on the team page that will give in-depth analysis of each team and how they have performed against top ten teams. That link will show every game a team has played since the beginning of the 1984 season against a ranked team.

Currently the records will show information back to 1984 when the AHSAA went to six classifications. It will be more difficult to go further back with this project.

Here are a few items about how teams have done against the ranked teams through this week's action. Some notes: Hoover totals include Berry and R.A. Hubbard include Courtland's records. The records do not include games against ranked teams from other state.

  * Russellville has the most regular season wins against ranked teams with a record of 42-43. Hazlewood (37-32), Hoover (37-31), Vestavia Hills (36-31), Colbert County (36-49) and T.R. Miller (36-15) are close behind.

  * Hoover has the most wins against teams in the same classification with a slate of 69-44. T.R. Miller (62-30), Homewood (44-41), and Pike County (42-41) follow. These do include playoff games.

  * T.R. Miller claims the lead for most wins against ranked teams in all classes with a 74-35 record. Hoover (69-44), Colbert County (61-67), Deshler (61-54) and Hazlewood (60-43) follow. These also include playoff games.

  * Hazlewood had a 13-17 record against teams for higher classifications. R.A. Hubbard is second with a record of (13-30) and Sweet Water has gone 12-24.

  * Hoover has won ten consecutive matchups against top ten teams since losing to Prattville in the title game in 2011.

  * Clay County won fourteen consecutive games against top ten teams between 1994-1997.

  * UMS-Wright played eight top ten teams in 2012, going 6-2.

  * John Essex has the worst record against ranked teams at 0-43.

  * Mary Montgomery is 0-42 against ranked teams.

  * Colbert County has played the most games against ranked teams, 128.

  * Clarke County has accumulated the most losses against ranked teams with 76.
