2014 ASWA Week 2 Poll

Bob Jones hits No. 1 spot for the first time in school history

For The ASWA

For the first time since 2011, Hoover is not the top-ranked team in its class.

For the first time ever, Bob Jones is the top-ranked team in its class.

A 35-14 loss to Colquitt County (Ga.) meant the Bucs' first 0-2 start since 1994. Coupled with the Patriots opening the season with a 28-7 win over Decatur, the Bucs dropped to No. 2 for the first time since the final poll of 2011 and Bob Jones rose to the top spot for the first time in the school's 41-year football history, according to ahsfhs.org.

Hoover wasn't the only No. 1 to tumble. A 56-50 loss to Class 3A Colbert County dropped Tanner from the top spot in Class 2A and into No. 3. Fyffe moved into the top spot.

The other leaders stayed the same with Class 6A Spanish Fort, Class 5A St. Paul's, Class 4A Leeds, Class 3A Madison Academy, Class 1A Brantley and the Alabama Independent Schools Association's Edgewood Academy all remaining on top of their respective classes.

The marquee game in the state this week involves just one ranked team - Class 7A No. 6 Vestavia Hills as the Rebels host 1-0 Oak Mountain; should the Rebels win, coach Buddy Anderson would become the state's all-time winningest coach with 310 wins - all at Vestavia - and eclipse the mark of 309 set by Waldon Tucker at Demopolis Academy, Gordo and Fayette County.

Otherwise, Class 7A No. 3 McGill-Toolen hosts No. 7 Fairhope, Class 6A No. 6 Blount is at No. 9 Daphne, No. 7 Muscle Shoals is at No. 8 Florence, Class 5A No. 4 Charles Henderson is at 3A No. 4 Dale County,  Class 4A No. 1 Leeds hosts No. 9 Munford, Class 3A No. 9 Bayside Academy hosts No. 2 T.R. Miller, No. 7 Glencoe hosts No. 8 Walter Wellborn, Class 2A No. 3 Tanner is at No. 9 Addison, and AISA No. 7 Marengo Academy hosts No. 8 Clarke Prep.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Super 6 State Championships began in 1996. Since then all title games were played at Legion Field in Birmingham until 2009.
