2017 Birmingham Area Schools

Bill Plott came through for us once again with a couple of notebooks from the Birmingham area. His research included all the schools from Jefferson County with scores and coaches. We now have all this new information entered on the website.
The most work was done for the schools that no longer play football. Schools like; Abrams, Brighton, Carver Bessemer, Fairfield Industrial, Hayes, Hooper City, Immaculata, R.R. Moton, Muscoda, New Castle, North Jefferson, Oliver, Powderly, Rosedale, Ullman and Westfield all played football prior to joining the AHSAA in 1969. These teams previously had very little research done so the new information assisted us greatly in defining these schools on the football field.
All told, over 1,300 scores were added to the above schools. In addition, all the schools in Jefferson County had dates, scores and coaches added to the information we already had completed. We crossed the 170,000 mark for games where we know the winner of over the past 120 years. That is an amazing number. To be honest, I never thought we would get to that number.
Our appreciation once again is shown to Bill Plott for sharing his many hours, days and weeks of research with us. I knew many of these schools existed but did not know how the fit into our project exactly. Bill's research cleared up a lot of questions about how these schools were consolidated over the years and what became of most of them.
Thanks Bill.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History
The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
