Week Nine


The race to the playoffs is underway with two weeks remaining in the regular season. Region Championships are on the line now. Here are a few tidbits from this week's football action around the state.

   *   Team that have clinched a coveted region championship include; 6A - Hueytown, Pinson Valley, Hartselle and Fort Payne. 5A - Vigor, Greenville, Ramsay, Mortimer Jordan, Jasper and Madison Academy. 4A - UMS-Wright, American Christian and Brooks. 3A - Mobile Christian, Pike County, St. James, Winfield, Fultondale, Geraldine and Westminster Christian, 2A - Abbeville, Highland Home, Reeltown, Aliceville, Ohatchee and Fyffe. 1A - St. Luke's, Georgiana, Linden, Spring Garden, South Lamar, Falkville and Mars Hill. Congratulations to these teams.

   *   UMS-Wright has the longest winning streak in the AHSAA having posted 13 consecutive victories following a 35-0 victory over Escambia County. Monroe Academy leads the AISA with a 23 game winning streak following a 34-14 win over Fort Dale Academy.

   *   Barbour County has a string of forty-eight consecutive losses over the past few years. They lost to Abbeville 40-0 Friday night.

   *   The longest region losing streak belongs to Brindlee Mountain with a streak of 37 straight region losses following an open date this week.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have won 36 straight regular season games after beating North Sand Mountain 42-26.

   *   Demopolis has the longest region winning streak at 31 games. The Tigers defeated Jemison 50-0 in a region game to extend the streak for at least one more week.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy have a string of 38 consecutive home wins following their road victory Friday. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 27 game home winning streak.

   *   Rogers now has the longest road winning streak among the AHSAA schools at 14 games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a 22 game road winning streak.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 58 consecutive games after putting up 56 on Holy Spirit Friday night.

   *   The Fyffe Blue Devils continue to score each and every game. They extend their streak of consecutive games scoring to 242 games.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 206 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs defeated Vestavia Hills 31-14.

   *   Saraland, Cottage Hill Christian and Westminster Christian are 8-0 for the first time in their respective school's histories.

   *   Some of the best turnaround stories this season include Houston Academy who finished last year 0-10 and are off to a 6-2 start this year. Smiths Station also finished 0-10 last year and are off to a 5-3 start in 2018. Headland went 1-9 last year and are 7-0 this season. North Jackson finished 2-8 in 2017 but have turned that into a perfect 8-0 record this year.

   *   Josh Niblett, the head football coach at Hoover won his 200th win this week against rival Vestavia Hills. His overall coaching record is a magnificent 200-50 over a 19 year career at Oneonta, Oxford and Hoover.

   *   North Jackson defeated West Morgan 69-6 Friday. They have scored 521 points in seven games for an average of 65.1 points each week. The record for scoring in the regular season is over 90 years old set by the Tuscaloosa Black Bears in 1926 when they averaged 59.1 points over a nine game season. The most points scored in any regular season belongs to Demopolis in 2004 when they scored 577 in 10 games. Edgewood Academy scored 594 in 2014 in the AISA.

 * Isabella set a team record in a win 81-0 over Ellwood Christian breaking the previous record set in a victory over R.C. Hatch 75-40 on 10/15/2010.

 * Rogers set a team record in a win 56-20 over Elkmont tying the previous record set when they defeated Loretto TN 56-14 on 8/25/2017.



Points allowed in a game

 * Ellwood Christian set a team record in a 81-0 loss to Isabella breaking the previous record set in a loss to Billingsley 72-12 on 11/14/2014.

 * West Morgan set a team record in a 69-6 loss to North Jackson breaking the previous record set in a loss to Lauderdale County 63-7 on 10/11/2013.



Margin of Victory in a game

 * Bayside Academy set a team record by defeating St. Michael 55-3 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Montgomery Academy 50-0 on 9/10/2010.

 * Isabella set a team record by defeating Ellwood Christian 81-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Jefferson Christian 74-0 on 8/29/2008.



Margin of Defeat in a game

 * Columbia set a team record in a loss 63-0 to Huntsville tying the previous record set when they lost to Decatur 63-0 on 10/19/2018.

 * Ellwood Christian set a team record in a loss 81-0 to Isabella breaking the previous record set when they lost to Isabella 70-0 on 10/27/2017.

 * West Morgan set a team record in a loss 69-6 to North Jackson breaking the previous record set when they lost to Madison Academy 57-0 on 10/19/2012.



Points Scored by Both Teams in a Game

 * Bullock County set a team record in a 56-36 victory over Southside Selma breaking the previous record set when they defeated Central Hayneville 58-34 on 9/1/2017.

 * Geneva set a team record in a loss 63-56 to Slocomb breaking the previous record set in a loss to Opp 60-42 on 9/18/2015.

 * Selma set a team record in a loss 61-40 to Wetumpka breaking the previous record set when they defeated Brookwood 56-41 on 10/13/2017.

 * Monroe Academy has won a team record 23 consecutive games since 8/18/2017.
 * Headland has won a team record 8 consecutive games since 8/24/2018.
