Week Four


The 2019 season is underway. Teams are in the hunt for region championships and playoff spots. Here are a few tidbits and notes from this week's action.

   *  UMS-Wright owns the state's longest winning streak at twenty-two games. The Bulldogs defeated Williamson 14-0 on Friday.

   *   Barbour County extended their state leading fifty-three game losing streak in a 65-0 loss to Cottonwood.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 40 consecutive region games after falling to Geraldine by a score of 64-6 this week.

   *  The Fyffe Red Devils have won 41 straight regular season games following a 24-3 dismantling of Collinsville.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils also have the longest region winning streak having won 28 straight region contests after their latest region victory.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy lead all schools with a string of 42 consecutive home wins after defeating Success Unlimited 34-6 on their home turf. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 32 game home winning streak.

   *   Hokes Bluff had won 12 consecutive road games before falling to Oneonta 44-13 on the road. UMS-Wright now holds onto the longest road winning streak having won 12 consecutive. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 22 straight road victories.

   *   Fyffe also has the longest current streak for scoring 20 or more points in a game. The Red Devils have put up at least 20 points in 49 consecutive games dating back to 2015.

   *   Fyffe continues to extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 252 games without being shutout.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 212 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.

   *   Is anyone playing defense? Fifteen teams scored more than 60 points this week with four topping the seventy point mark. Thirteen accomplished the feat just last week. Thirty years ago, in 1989, only nineteen teams scored more than 60 the entire season. In 1979 only eight teams scored more than sixty points in a game all year long.

   *   Alabama is 18-24 against out of state competition this season. They are 9-7 against Georgia, 3-6 against Florida, 4-6 versus Mississippi and 2-5 against Tennessee.

   *   According to our records, Jasper has won 599 games and can become the 22nd team to top the 600 win mark next week when host Hayden. The Jasper records include a couple of name changes along the way from Walker County, Walker and most recently Jasper.

   *   Coach Glynn Lott won the 150th game in his football coaching career as his team defeated Fort Dale Academy 41-7. Coach Lott is in his 24th season as the head coach at Macon-East and has compiled a record of 150-105 over the course of his coaching career.

 * Handley set a team record in a 62-36 victory over B.T. Washington breaking the previous record set when they defeated Munford 50-48 on 9/18/2015.

 * Asbury set a team record with a 1-3 record. That ties the previous mark of 1-9-0 in 2018.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Clay County shutout an amazing eleven opponents in 1996. The Panthers outscored their opponents 613-42 finishing the season 15-0.
