Week Six


The 2019 season is coming down the backstrech. The region championships are beginning to take shape as teams via for playoff spots. Here are a few tidbits and notes from this week's action.

   *  UMS-Wright owns the state's longest winning streak at twenty-four games. The Bulldogs posted their third consecutive shutout in a 21-0 victory over Mobile Christian.

   *   Barbour County extended their state leading fifty-five game losing streak in a 70-0 loss to Russell County.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 41 consecutive region games but lost a non-region game this week to Douglas by a score of 55-0.

   *  The Fyffe Red Devils have won 43 straight regular season games following a 35-0 win over Plainview.

   *   The Red Devils also have the longest region winning streak having won 29 straight region contests.

   *   The Volunteers of Monroe Academy lead all schools with a string of 43 consecutive home wins after defeating Clarke Prep 48-21 at home. Fyffe leads the AHSAA schools with a 33 game home winning streak after their latest victory on their home turf.

   *   UMS-Wright holds onto the longest road winning streak having won 13 consecutive after defeating Clarke County at home. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 24 straight road victories following their 50-0 win over Springwood on the road.

   *   Fyffe also has the longest current streak for scoring 20 or more points in a game. The Red Devils have put up at least 20 points in 51 consecutive games dating back to 2015.

   *   Fyffe continues to extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 254 games without being shutout.

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 214 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.

   *   It seems I end up scratching my head every Friday night at the number of points being scored. This week ten teams scored more than 60 points.

   *   Edgewood Academy defeated Macon East Academy 70-69 in two overtimes. The 139 points scored by both teams are the most in AISA history and ties for the second most in state history behind the 146 scored back in 2016 when Childersburg outscored Central Coosa by a score of 82-64.

   *   Shades Valley was shutout by Vestavia Hills 17-0. It is the first shutout the Mounties have suffered since losing 49-0 to Gadsden City in 2011 some 90 games ago. Greenville also saw their streak of 139 games scoring come to an end against Rehobeth by a score of 6-0.

   *   Alabama is 27-25 against out of state competition this season after going 5-0 this week. They are 11-7 against Georgia, 6-6 against Florida, 7-7 versus Mississippi and 3-5 against Tennessee.

   *   Coach Don Jacobs won the 100th game in his football coaching career as Scottsboro defeated North Jackson 33-0. Coach Jacobs is in his 13th season as a head coach at Elkmont, Oneonta and Scottsboro and has compiled a record of 100-50 over the course of his coaching career.

 * Helena set a team record in a win 61-10 over Southside Gadsden breaking the previous record set in a victory over Wilcox Central 55-0 on 9/4/2015.

 * Macon-East Academy set a team record in a 70-69 loss to Edgewood Academy breaking the previous record set in a victory over Kingwood Christian 65-0 on 10/18/2002.

 * Russell County set a team record in a win 70-0 over Barbour County breaking the previous record set in a victory over Marbury 63-43 on 10/12/2012.

 * Saraland set a team record in a win 63-12 over LeFlore breaking the previous record set in a victory over B.C. Rain 62-26 on 10/27/2016.

 * Macon-East Academy set a team record in a 70-69 loss to Edgewood Academy breaking the previous record set in a loss to Sparta Academy 68-13 on 10/25/1996.

 * Colbert Heights set a team record by defeating Cherokee 56-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated East Lawrence 44-2 on 10/27/2017.

 * Douglas set a team record by defeating Brindlee Mountain 55-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Butler 56-8 on 10/20/2011.

 * Russell County set a team record by defeating Barbour County 70-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated Hurtsboro 57-0 on 9/8/1967.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
