The 2021 season begins this week with a partial
schedule of games. Here are a few tidbits
entering the season.
* Before we get to the usual things here, I want inform our fans that we are
still here. While it has been an unusual and strange off season, we are looking
forward to a different and much better season. Hopefully we will be able to
forget about last season and produce our regular content as we did for many
seasons prior to 2020. As you may very well know any game not played this season
is subject to forfeiture by the team cancelling the game. We do ask that if you
see something wrong on the website pertaining to a game score please let us know
and it will be corrected. Thanks to all the fans who constantly work to assist
me with this project throughout the year.
* Fayette County has an opportunity to do something no other team in Alabama
has ever accomplished. They will become the first team with 700 victories with
just one more win. The Tigers start the season against Winfield next Thursday
night. If they fail to garner an early season victory look for the T.R. Miller
Tigers to be the first team to reach the 700 win mark as they open the season
with 698 all-time wins.
* Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
232 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.
The Bucs open the 2020 season as the #2 team in 7A and face a powerful North Gwinnett Georgia team at home.
* Fyffe with a string of
forty-five consecutive victories will be kicking off the 2021 football season
against Isabella on August 20th. The Red Devils have a shot at the all-time
record for the longest winning streak in Alabama if they can put together
another ten wins during the regular season. Clay County won 55 straight games
between 1994-1997.
* Barbour County has high hopes of ending a string of
sixty-six
consecutive losses this season. The Jaguars were saddled with six losses last
season without fielding a team due to forfeits and Covid-19. They are followed by Columbia (52) and Brindlee Mountain (34).
Barbour County could surpass the state's
longest losing streak in history
held by R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a
row.
* Fyffe has a streak of 39 consecutive region wins
with no signs of slowing down this year.
The Red Devils open region play in a couple of weeks. Lanett (25)and Etowah (25)
are the next two schools with long region winning streaks.
* Brindlee Mountain has lost
50 consecutive region games
but do not begin region play for a couple of weeks. Barbour County has lost 45
straight region contests.
*
The Fyffe Red Devils have won 58 straight regular season games. They surpassed
the old record of 56
games set by Prattville a few years ago. Pike Road is well behind with a
string of 20 consecutive regular season wins.
* Fyffe also enters the 2021 season with a string of 49 consecutive
home wins. Mars Hill is a distant second with a streak of 26 straight
home victories.
* Fyffe also holds onto the longest road
winning streak having won 16 consecutive road games.
*
Gordo will try to extend their streak of 28 straight winning seasons. Gordo has
won at least ten games in the last seven seasons so they show no signs of slowing
down anytime soon. The Green
Wave last suffered through a losing season way back in 1992 when they finished
with a 4-6 record. Oneonta owns the longest streak
all-time when they won more games than they lost every year between 1956-1994.
Demopolis (26) and Opelika (25) are not far behind.
* Fyffe can tie an unknown record by winning ten
games this year. They are currently tied with Hazlewood (1987-96) and Hoover
(2008-17) with ten consecutive seasons with at least ten wins. They have an
opportunity to tie Russellville (2000-10) for the most ten win seasons in a row.
*
Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of
consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 279 games
without being shutout. T.R. Miller sits atop this list with a string of 354
games.
* One more note for Fyffe and we will be done with them for this
week. The Red Devils have scored 20 or more points in 70 consecutive games. The
record belongs to Clay-Chalkville at 80 set back in 2016.
* The Luverne Tigers will
be working hard to extend their
string of qualifying for the playoffs to 39 consecutive seasons with second year coach
Jason Rowell. He is the eighth different coach during the streak. The last
time they did not qualify for the playoffs was way back in 1982.
* Vina has suffered through
thirty consecutive losing seasons. The Red Devils finished last year with a 1-9 record. That is the second longest in history behind only
R.C. Hatch with a string of 36 straight losing seasons.
* With a record of 699-357-35, Fayette County could very well
become the first team to reach 700 victories this season. T.R. Miller could very
well join them early this season with 698 wins.
* No less than a dozen different coaches will be in search of
their 100th win as a head football coach once the season opens. All have over 90
victories during their careers.
