  2022 Predictions

Clay-Chalkville will be loaded this season and primed to repeat as state champions. Behind QB Kamari McClellan and receivers Mario Craver and Jaylen Mbakwe look for the Cougars to be in Auburn come December. The Cougars must maneuver a very difficult schedule as they play Briarwood, Hueytown and Thompson in non-region games. All three oponents are capable of winning a championship this season.

Their biggest threat will likely come from Hueytown with their own star QB Earl Woods. The two teams met in an epic battle last year in the title game with Clay-Chalkville winning by a score of 46-42.

Briarwood will be placing their hopes on D1 QB Christopher Vizzina as the Lions are primed to return to the top of 6A. We will not have to wait long to see how good the Lions are this season as they open up with Clay-Chalkville on August 19th.

Pike Road will likely find the going tougher in 6A but returns a lot of talent on both sides of the football. Mountain Brook was the only team last season to hold Clay-Chalkville to under 40 points in a 24-18 loss in the semifinals. The Spartan defense shutout seven opponents and look for them to be tough to score on once again in 2022.

The competitive region once again will be region one. With the addition of Theodore and Murphy the region sports five teams that won at least eight games last year. Saraland, Spanish Fort and Theodore all won ten games. There will be a couple of very good teams left out of the playoffs with only four spots to fill. The weakest region is eight. Only Fort Payne (6-5) finished with a winning record in 2021.

 Most Victories 2010-2021

Three of the top four winningest programs in 6A the past dozen seasons reside in Region One. Current region one teams have also laid claim to eight state titles during that time. With thirteen teams that have won at least 100 games 6A has been very competitve with a lot of very good teams.
