THIS WEEK IN ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
AHSFHS.org Report
(Nov 12, 2022)

Second Round of 2022 Playoffs

The first round is history. No the real state championship race begins. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *  The AFHSHS.org Power Ratings and the scoring averages for every team will be available by Sunday. If you missed any of the football action we will give you a weekly rundown of everything. We will also have previews for every third round game Sunday. Predictions will be posted Monday.

   *   The remaining undefeated teams:
           6A - Hartselle (12-0), Theodore (12-0)
           5A - Leeds (11-0), UMS-Wright (12-0)
           4A - Anniston (11-0), Catholic Montgomery (12-0), Deshler (12-0)
           3A - None
           2A - Fyffe (12-0)
           1A - None
           AISA - Lee-Scott Academy (11-0), Patrician (12-0), Jackson Academy (12-0)

   *  For the second week in a row we had a major upset in the playoffs. Last week Parker pulled off the upset of the year by knocking off #2 Clay-Chalkville 7-6. In the second round we saw Geraldine upset #1 Mars Hill 17-14. Remember Geraldine was the team that stopped Fyffe's long winning streak last year. The Bulldogs get a rematch with Sylvania next week.

   *  Number four seeds advancing include St. Paul's who knocked off Pelham 38-7, Pike County beating Alabama Christian 41-39 and Mobile Christian dropping Trinity 27-13. As a matter of fact, Mobile Christian travels to Pike County for a third round matchup of number four seeds.

   *  Tuscaloosa Academy used a 51 yard field goal with 3 seconds remaining to defeat Lexington in a wild game. Thomasville held on the defeat Dadeville 15-14 on overtime. Tuscaloosa Academy advances to the third round of the playoffs in their first year in the AHSAA.

   *  The AISA championship games are scheduled for this coming Thursday at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
Lee-Scott vs. Glenwood - Lee-Scott makes the trip for the first time since 2012.
Patrician vs. Clarke Prep - Clarke Prep returns to the championship game for the first time since 2013.
Jackson Academy vs. Lowndes - A repeat of last year's game that was won by Lowndes Academy 21-6.
Springwood vs. Evangel Christian meet in the first ever AISA 8-Man championship game.

   *  Class 7A went exactly as predicted the first two rounds. Now the big boys meet in the semi-finals. Hoover will host Thompson while Central Phenix City will host Auburn. It will be the 6th consecutive meeting between the Bucs and the Warriors in the semi-finals. Both games are rematches of games played earlier this season.

   *  The Hoover Bucs are 19-6 and 12-3 at home in the semi-finals. Four of those losses have come against Thompson the past four seasons. Hoover advances to the semi-finals for the fifteenth year in a row and 22nd time in the last 23 seasons.

   *  Arab, Coosa Christian, Gulf Shores and Randolph won a second round playoff game for the first time in their school's history and will advance to the third round for the first time.

   *   Teams who have not reached the third round playoff games in a while include; Charles Henderson (2013), Hartselle (2012), Pisgah (2002), St. James (2003) and Theodore (1999).

   *  Teams who have won a third round playoff game in a while include; B.B. Comer (1995), Gardendale (1984), Homewood (2005), Lynn (1996), Pike County (2006) and Sylvania (1994).

   *   Teams who have never hosted a second round game include; Gulf Shores and Coosa Christian.

   *   Teams you do not wish to face in the third round along with their all-time record in the third round of the playoffs. Andalusia 6-2, Deshler 15-8, Homewood 11-4, Sweet Water 13-4, UMS-Wright 15-10.

   *   Best home team records in the third round of the playoffs for teams hosting games next week. Pickens County 6-1, Sweet Water 4-1, Leroy 6-2, Piedmont 6-2, and Saraland 3-0.

   *   Road teams with the best records for teams playing next week on the road. Homewood 6-2 and Reeltown 6-3.

   *   The best second round matchups I would most like to see; Hartselle (12-0) at Mountain Brook (10-2), Thompson (9-3) at Hoover (11-1), Leeds (11-0) at Ramsay (10-2), Deshler (12-0) at Oneonta (10-1) and Gordo (11-1) at Piedmont (10-2).

   *  Anniston is 11-0 for the first time since 1992 and Theodore is 12-0 for the first time in school history Lee-Scott Academy in 11-0 for the first time ever.

   *  Gulf Shores (11-1) and Arab (11-1) are off to the best starts in any season ever.

   *  Deshler defeated Etowah 36-33 and leads the state with thirteen consecutive wins.

   *  Catholic Montgomery has scored 40 or more points in twelve straight games and 23 of the last 25 games.
