The 2022 season rolled through week two. Here are a few tidbits
from this week's action.
* It was a week of upsets in the ASWA top ten.
Region play starts this week so get ready for the fun to become real. If you missed any of the
action we will give you a weekly rundown of everything.
* Top ranked Piedmont fell to Cherokee County 21-14
Friday night. As a matter of fact the top five teams in 3A all lost. Looking at
last week's top ten in 3A only one team, Winfield, is without a loss after two
weeks of play. There will be a big shakeup in this week's rankings especially in
3A where a total of seven teams lost.
* It was not a good week to be ranked No. 2 as four of the teams lost while
holding down the second position. Clarke County, Gordo, Vigor and Glenwood
School all fell.
* Twenty-seven
ranked teams lost this week. That is the second most all-time only surpassed by
the opening week of the 1992 season when 28 ranked teams lost.
* There were a few games won in dramatic fashion Friday night. Briarwood
scored on the final play of the game to defeat Spain Park 23-21. Fairhope, for
the second week in a row, pulled out a game in the final minutes by scoring 14
unanswered points to defeat Gulf Breeze FL 38-31.
* Here is one for you. The teams in 7A region one have a combined 4-8
record. Of the four wins none have come against another 7A school. All were
against lower classifications or out-of-state teams.
* The schools in 6A region five are 11-3 thus far
in 2022. In 5A region 2 the teams are 7-1.
* Lanett and Sweet Water were both shutout this week. It was back in 2015
that either school did not score in a game.
* Clay-Chalkville has scored at least 40 points in 16 of their last 17
games. The last two times they failed to put up at least forty points came
against Mountain Brook. No surprise there.
* Did you notice? In the highest scoring game of
the week Priceville outscored Fairview 54-47.
* Alabama teams are a combined 14-15 vs. out-of-state competition. They were
4-11 against
Georgia, 7-2 vs. Florida, 2-0 vs. Tennessee and 1-2 against Mississippi.
* Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing
250 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season.
The Bucs defeated Bartlett TN 56-7.

by extending the state's longest winning streak at seventeen straight games. The
Cougars knocked off Hueytown 42-8.

They fell to Hartselle 54-14. Columbia could surpass the state's
longest losing streak in history
held by R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a
row. The Eagles have allowed at least 38 points in 37 consecutive games dating
back to the 2018 football season.
* Lanett has a streak of 33 consecutive region wins.

and will try to break that streak as they begin region play this week. Barbour County has lost 51
straight region contests.

Bulldogs with a
string of 26 consecutive regular season wins top that list. Brantley defeated rival
Houston County
33-7.
* Thompson had the longest home winning streak
stopped at 29 straight wins on their home turf. Spring Garden now takes the lead
having won 16 staright at home.
* Guntersville holds onto the longest road
winning streak having won 13 consecutive road games. The Wildcats shutout
Southside Gadsden 21-0 Friday night.
*
Fyffe extended their streak of
consecutive games scoring to 292 games
after getting some revenge on Geraldine by a score of 34-6. T.R. Miller sits atop this list with a string of 354
games.

by knocking off Jeff Davis 35-14. They become the 30th school to reach that
mark. Decatur became the 13th school to reach the 650 win mark by defeating
