How good are the Fyffe Red Devils?

Just how good have the Fyffe Red Devils been the past dozen season or so? Well if you know me I am a numbers guy so I will jump right into a bunch of statistics to give you a clue just in case you were not paying attention in recent years.

Over the past five football seasons the Red Devils have a record of 70-2. Those two losses came during the 2021 season to Geraldine 20-19 and Saks 14-7. So they are only eight points from being on a 72 game winning streak. Fyffe is 48-1 in the regular season and 22-1 in the playoffs over the past five season. Think about it this way, they won seventy game while only three other teams even played seventy game during that timeframe.

How does that rank among other great teams all-time? Well actually Hoover went 71-4 between 2009-13 so the Bucs still hang onto the record for most victories over any five season span in history. Third place also is a tie between the current Fyffe teams and Hoover between 2001-05 when they finished with a record of 70-4. It should be noted that neither Bucs' team had a better winning percentage during their runs.

Now onto the past ten seasons. Between 2013-2022 the Red Devils are a combined 137-7 on the football field. Three of those losses came during the regular season so they are 96-3 in the regular season and 41-4 in the playoffs. Piedmont has a combined record of 123-20 over the past ten seasons and reside in second place. Once again only two other teams, Piedmont and Pickens County even played 137 games over the past ten seasons.

Those seven losses are by a combined 52 points. Only two of the losses were decided by more than a single touchdown.

All-time the Red Devils are on top with their 137-7 record. The second best ten year span for any team was at Hoover between 2008-17 when the Bucs finished a combined 129-16. Third place belongs to the Prattville Lions with a record of 124-12 between 2000-09.

Still working off the last ten years for Fyffe, they are 64-2 in region play and 41-4 in the playoffs. The forty-one playoff victories are ahead of second place Piedmont who has thirty-seven. Oh and they have six state championships too. Their forty-one playoff wins are more than 130 AHSAA teams have total both regular season and the playoffs.

Also the Red Devils have scored 6,235 points and allowed 1,289 points in those 144 games in the past ten seasons. They have scored 660 more points than second place Maplesville. They have averaged 43.3 points a game and allowed only 9.0 points. Both are best in the state over the past ten years.

We could go on and on about Fyffe and what Coach Benefield and his teams have accomplished but I think you should already have the message. How long will this run continue? About as long as the football program believes in their coach.
