Alabama High School Football Head Coaches

Bubba Davis

William T. "Bubba" Davis was born November 4, 1947 in West Point, Mississippi. Davis played football at West Point High School and continued to play at East Mississippi College in 1965-66. He became a Hall of Fame player at the school.

Davis was also an award winning athlete and leader at Delta State University. He began coaching in Georgia in 1969 before coming back to West Point in 1974 as assistant coach. He was named the head football coach at West Point in 1981. His 1982 team had record of 13-0, West Point's only undefeated team in history. That team won the State 2-AA Championship and was ranked #1 in the state.

His 1984 team went to the State Championship game before losing. The 1987 team won the 4A State Championship along with the 1988 squad. Altogether, he won four state championships during his 12 year tenure with the Green Wave.

Throughout his 35-year career, he is the only coach in Mississippi to ever win three straight championships in the major classifications of 4-A or 5-A. Davis has also been named Coach of the Year an impressive 12 times.

In 1995, Davis moved to Alabama and accepted the head coaching position at Walker High School in Jasper. Over the next ten seasons his teams finished a combined 84-30. All but two of his teams reached the state playoffs.

Following the 2004 season, Davis returned to his native Mississippi and took over the football program at Petal High School. In 2007 he spent one season as the head coach at New Albany before landing at Columbus High School the next year. He led New Albany to a 3-8 record and a Class 4A playoff berth.

Davis spent the 2010 season as an assistant coach at Immanuel Center for Christian Education after a two-year stint as head coach at Columbus High. In 2011, Davis served as an assistant on Jeff Terrills staff at Starkville Academy.

Davis has a career record of 220-97. His record in Mississippi is 136-67 and 84-30 in Alabama. Coach Bubba Davis is a member of the West Point, East Mississippi, Delta State and Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fames. He was also inducted into the Walker County Hall of Fame.
