The Pleasant Grove Spartans came to Jimmie Trotter Stadium in Morris with every intention of upsetting the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils. The plan almost worked to perfection but in the end Mortimer Jordan came away with a 48-37 victory.

Quarterback Jordan Collins found William Glenn on a 67-yard touchdown pass and Pleasant Grove had a 7-0 lead with 5:54 left in the first quarter. Chad Shelton raced 64 yards the Blue Devils' first drive in the game to set up Andy Dillon's 27-yard field goal.

Collins scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown, Judah Lando ran 10 yards for another touchdown and Tyler England caught a 16-yard touchdown pass in the first half.

Mortimer Jordan scored on a hook-and-lateral pass play from Ryan Keedy to Josh Stewart to Chad Shelton with 16 seconds left in the first half. The touchdown cut the Spartans' lead to 34-20 at halftime.

Tyler booted a 47-yard field goal for the Spartans' only second-half points as they were outscored 28-3. Shelton's 48-yard touchdown run gave Mortimer Jordan a 41-37 with 2:14 remaining in the game.

Mortimer Jordan got their final score on a fourth-and-15 play at the Spartans' 30 yard line with 1:20 left. Instead of playing it safe and running for the first down, the Devils opted to pass. Keedy hit Stewart for the clinching touchdown and a 48-37 lead.

The score put the icing on the cake in an amazing comeback win for the Blue Devils. They had recovered from a first half deficit of 34-13 to pull out an unlikely victory over an upset minded Pleasant Grove team that completed their season that evening with a 6-5 record.

Jordan Collins completed 15-of-26 passes for 253 yards in a losing effort for Pleasant Grove. He threw three first half touchdown passes but could not get the Spartan offense untracked in the second half.

Shelton finished with 242 yards rushing on 24 carries. Keedy completed 8-of-12 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Stewart collected two interceptions and Josh Cagle had one. Mortimer Jordan finished with 501 total yards including 308 on the ground. Pleasant Grove gained 386 yards of total offense.

The win sent Mortimer Jordan to Huntsville the next week where they defeated J.O. Johnson 56-12 in the second round of the playoff. They lost to Russellville 17-14 in the third round.
