Game: Played Friday December 1, 1972
Summary: Banks won the Class 4A state title
by defeating cross-town rival Huffman 34-8. The Jets were led by
the passing of Gary Rutledge and the running of Johnny Gunnels
and Rodney Johnson.
Johnson scored two touchdowns with Rutledge,
Gunnels and Bobby Morrow adding a score apiece to pace Banks.
Huffman got on the scoreboard with an 85 yard kickoff return
touchdown from Eddie Burns. Burns also would run for the two
point conversion.
Gary Rutledge completed 7 of 10 passes for 149 yards while
Gunnels carried the ball 16 times for 67 yards.
