Summary:
             Daniel Kirkland scores on two 1 yard runs and the Central defense turned back West End twice late in the second half to claim the 6A state title 12-7 Saturday. Two long drives, the first one went 85 yards on 18 plays gave the Red Devils a 6-0 halftime lead. Kirkland's dive early in the third quarter would prove to be all the points the defense needed to stake claim to their first state championship.
             In the fourth quarter West End drove to the Central 20 only to have the drive thwarted by linebacker Scotty King's interception at the 14. After a Central fumble at their own 14 another West End drive was stopped short of the goal line and the victory was assured.

Hazlewood won five consecutive state championships from 1988-1992. During this span the Golden Bears won 29 playoff games in a row.
