Game MVP: Wilson Whittington, Shades Valley and Montressa
Kirby, Anniston
Records: Anniston (13-2); Shades Valley (14-1)
Coaches: Robert Higginbotham, Shades Valley and Rodney Bivens, Anniston
Game: Saturday December 10, 1994 Legion Field, Birmingham
Summary:
Shades Valley outscored their
opponents by nearly 300 points in advancing to the 6A title game with a perfect record. Valley wanted
just one more play Saturday at Birmingham's Legion Field, but time expired as quarterback Wilson Whittington's
attempt to stop the clock ended with an incomplete pass at the Anniston 16 yard line.
Late in the game the Mounties drove to the Anniston three yard
line and faced a third and goal with 4:17 to play. Whittington
threw high into the endzone and the pass was deflected then
intercepted by Corey Thomas at the one yard line denying the
Mounties a chance at a game winning field goal on fourth down.
Dawud Rasheed finished the night with 93 yards on 22 carries
to lead the Mounties.
Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History
In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
