Game MVP: RB Chris Goode, Hazlewood
Records: Hazlewood (12-3); Reeltown (11-4)
Coaches: Rickey Johnson, Hazlewood and Jackie O'Neal, Reeltown
Game: Played Thursday December 7, 2000 at Legion Field, Birmingham
Summary:
Chris Goode ran 75 yard for one
touchdown and also scored on a 67 yard interception return to
lead the Golden Bears to their unprecedented eleventh state
championship. Goode, the latest in a long line of Goode athletes
to play for Hazlewood, was held in check the fist half but
stepped up when it counted most.
After Reeltown scored on a 35
yard run by Corey Smith to open the second half Goode would
break loose for his 75 yard run and after the two point
conversion Hazlewood would gain the lead 23-16. Reeltown never
threatened again in the game as the Golden Bears defense stood
fast..
