Summary:
The Randolph County
Tigers claimed the first state championship in school history
with a 21-14 win over Luverne on a cold Saturday afternoon at
Legion Field in Birmingham.
Ezekial Knight was everywhere
on the football field. He accounted for 198 all-purpose yards
and scored two touchdowns to lead the Tigers. He hauled in two
interceptions and was named the games MVP for his efforts.
The Tigers jumped out to a 21-0
halftime lead and came up big on defense when the needed it most
in the second half. Randolph County outgained Luverne 175 to 36
in the first half and used a 77-yard punt return by Knight to
score all the points they need by halftime.
In the last stanza, Terry Bell
intercepted a Luverne pass at the Tigers' 6-yard line to stop a
drive and Luverne was stuffed on a fourth and three play at the
Randolph County 28 with 38 seconds remaining in the game.

Murphy and Theodore battled through seven overtimes before the Panthers came out on top 33-26 in 1979.
