Game MVP: Ken Houston, Vigor
Records: Vigor (15-0); Russellville (13-2)
Coaches: Kerry Stevenson, Vigor and Doug Goodwin, Russellville
Game: Played Friday December 5, 2008 at Legion Field in Birmingham
Summary:
Vigor rolled up a record 606 yards offense, Kendall Houston and Jalston Fowler scored three touchdowns each and the Wolves
outscored Russellville 50-30 for the Class 5A state championship.
Vigor won its first title since 1988 as it held Russellville to minus eleven yards rushing on
the night.
Russellville found
themselves down 21-3 in the second quarter before rallying to
take a 23-21 lead when Mason Willis caught an 8-yard pass from
Joey Howe with 10:49 left in the third.
But Vigor came storming
back with four straight touchdowns to put the game out of reach. MVP Houston, with 180 yards on 26 carries
and Fowler with 163 yards on 17 carries proved to be too much
for the Golden Tigers.
