Scott Phelps, a native of Summerdale, Alabama and a 1980 graduate of Foley High School played football for the Lions. He received his degree from West Alabama. Phelps began his coaching career as the defensive coordinator and girls basketball coach at Shaw High School in Mobile. He took over for John Blackmon as the head football coach at Leroy in 1994. He led the Class 2A Black Bears to a 103-46 overall record, 11 playoff appearances and one state title in 12 years. His playoff record at Leroy was 20-10, including a Class 2A state title in 2004, a runner-up finish in 2001 and two other semifinal appearances (1994 and 2005). His teams also won six region titles. In 2006, Coach Phelps came home to Baldwin County and accepted the athletics director/head football coach position at Robertsdale. Phelps replace Jay Koziol, who had a record of 27-48 in seven seasons with the Golden Bears. Phelps went 13-47 in his six seasons at the helm for the Golden Bears. Coach Phelps overall coaching record is 116-93 over 18 years as a head football coach. |
