2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lynn completed the 2017 season with a 11-1 record. The Bears cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Lynn captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Bears since the 2006 season. Lynn reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Cherokee by a score of 35-14. The Bears won as many games as in any season since 2010. The defense was very stingy last season as Lynn ranked 45th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.3 points a game. Since 2010, Lynn has gone a combined 48-39. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lynn has managed to compile a record of 156-116. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 1A and 124th in the AHSAA. The Bears are led by head coach Calvin Aldridge who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-14 over the past three seasons at Lynn. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Aldridge. Coach Aldridge's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 36-59 (37.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Aldridge's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won one region championship. The Lynn Bears will play in Class 1A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Bears remain in 1A but move from region seven over to region six. The Bears enter the 2018 season riding a 10 game regular season winning streak. The Bears should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bears open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Phillips Bear Creek on Friday, August 31 at James E. Glass Stadium. Last year the Phillips Bear Creek Bears finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 1A region eight. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Spring Garden by a score of 40-14. Lynn and Phillips Bear Creek have met a total of 44 times on the football field. The Bears have a 30-13-1 record against the Bears. They last met in 1999 with Lynn winning by a score of 47-14. Lynn returns 1A All-State punter Brandon Hill. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
