2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hubbertville finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region five, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Hubbertville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Addison by a score of 45-13. Hubbertville took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2008. The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 2007. The Lions hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 10-2 record in 2016. Hubbertville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Lions want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.6 points a game. Since 2010, Hubbertville has gone a combined 66-29. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hubbertville has managed to compile a record of 129-131. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 1A and 185th in the AHSAA. The Lions are led by head coach Lamar Harris who is entering his season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 232-196 over the past seasons at Hubbertville. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of eighteen times. They have won six region crowns with Coach Harris. Coach Harris' overall record as a head football coach in season stands at 232-196 (54.2%). His 232 wins rank 8th among active coaches in the AHSAA. The Hubbertville Lions will play in Class 1A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 1A but move from region five over to region six. The Lions have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-48 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 1A and 55th in the AHSAA. With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. They have managed to qualify for the playoffs every year since 2009 and hopes are high to extend that streak. The Lions open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Waterloo on Friday, August 31. Last year the Waterloo Cougars finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region eight. The Cougars lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Cedar Bluff by a score of 33-28. Hubbertville and Waterloo have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Lions have a 4-1-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in with | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
