2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Blount completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region one, the Leopards earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Blount's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Wetumpka by a score of 41-7. Since 2010, Blount has gone a combined 63-29. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Blount has managed to compile a record of 164-106. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 6A and 85th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010. The Leopards are led by head coach Lev Holly who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 26-10 over the past three seasons at Blount. Under his direction the Leopards have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Holly. Coach Holly's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 31-25 (55.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Holly's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship. The Blount Leopards will play in Class 6A region one during the 2018 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Leopards could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. Unfortunately, Blount finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. They have managed to qualify for the playoffs every year since 2006 and hopes are high to extend that streak. The Leopards open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Vigor on Friday, August 24 at Prichard Stadium. Last year the Vigor Wolves finished with an overall record of 9-4 and in first place in Class 5A region one. The Wolves lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Demopolis by a score of 35-14. Blount and Vigor have met a total of 53 times on the football field. The Leopards have a 14-39-0 record against the Wolves. They last met in 2017 with Blount winning by a score of 27-6. Blount returns 6A All-State defensive lineman Cortlin Martin. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
