 2018 Preview

Brooks completed the 2017 season with a 8-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region eight, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Brooks reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Etowah by a score of 42-21.

Since 2010, Brooks has gone a combined 64-28. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Brooks has gone a combined 187-90. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 4A and 39th in the AHSAA. The Lions have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1998.

The Lions are led by head coach Brad Black who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 28-8 over the past three seasons at Brooks. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Black.

Coach Black's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 28-8 (77.8%).

The Brooks Lions will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2018 season. The Lions may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region eight this year.

The Lions should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

The Lions open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Lauderdale County on Thursday, August 23 at Robert Earl Grisham Stadium. Last year the Lauderdale County Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 3A region eight. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to J.B. Pennington by a score of 33-7.

Brooks and Lauderdale County have met a total of 50 times on the football field. The Lions have a 30-20-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Brooks winning by a score of 47-20.

Brooks returns 5A All-State  running back Noah Turbyfill. He was named to the first team last season.
