2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dothan finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Dothan finished seventh in Class 6A region two with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2010. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 1997 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Dothan was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.7 points a game. Since 2010, Dothan has gone a combined 37-47. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Dothan has managed to compile a record of 102-142. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 6A and 260th in the AHSAA. The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Wayne White as they enter the 2018 season. Coach White's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 7-23 (23.3%). The Dothan Tigers will play in Class 6A region two during the 2018 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. After just 2 wins last year, Dothan will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Enterprise on Thursday, August 23 at Rip Hewes Stadium. Last year the Enterprise Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 7A region two. Dothan and Enterprise have met a total of 88 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 39-46-3 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Enterprise winning by a score of 24-17. Dothan returns 6A All-State defensive back Eric James. He was named to the second team last season. The Tigers also return offensive lineman Nate Cooper. He was named to the honorable mention team. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
