2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Greenville completed the 2017 season with a 5-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Greenville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Beauregard by a score of 23-20. The Tigers had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, Greenville has gone a combined 54-35. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Greenville has managed to compile a record of 156-111. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 5A and 109th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Josh McLendon who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 18-13 over the past three seasons at Greenville. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach McLendon. Coach McLendon's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 36-18 (66.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach McLendon's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship. The Greenville Tigers will play in Class 5A region two during the 2018 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 68-47 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 5A and 44th in the AHSAA. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Hillcrest Evergreen on Friday, August 24 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Hillcrest Evergreen Jaguars finished with an overall record of 14-1 and in first place in Class 3A region one. The Jaguars won the Class 3A State Championship last season when they defeated Randolph County by a score of 26-14 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn. Greenville and Hillcrest Evergreen have met a total of 21 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 17-4-0 record against the Jaguars. They last met in 2015 with Greenville winning by a score of 34-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
