2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Huffman completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Huffman finished seventh in Class 7A region three with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Vikings last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Huffman was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Vikings want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.9 points a game. Since 2010, Huffman has gone a combined 27-54. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Huffman has managed to compile a record of 123-130. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 6A and 190th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2007. The Vikings are led by head coach Alex Wilson who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-39 over the past six seasons at Huffman. Under his direction the Vikings have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wilson. Coach Wilson's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 37-56 (39.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wilson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . The Huffman Vikings will play in Class 6A region six during the 2018 season. The Vikings may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 7A to 6A. They will compete in region six this year. The Vikings have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 80-38 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 6A and 3rd in the AHSAA. Huffman will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. Region six will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. This season, the Vikings will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six. The Vikings open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Bessemer City on Saturday, August 25 at Lawson Field. Last year the Bessemer City Purple Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 6A region four. The Purple Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Park Crossing by a score of 35-6. Huffman and Bessemer City have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Vikings have a 4-8-0 record against the Purple Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Huffman winning by a score of 12-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
