Pell City completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region seven, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Pell City's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Shades Valley by a score of 34-7. Since 2010, Pell City has gone a combined 45-41. Last year the Fort Payne Wildcats finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 6A region seven. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Homewood by a score of 28-21. Pell City and Fort Payne have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 3-10-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Fort Payne winning by a score of 19-14. Pell City returns 6A All-State linebacker Brett Staples.
