Plainview completed the 2017 season with a 9-2 record. Last year Plainview captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Plainview's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Weaver by a score of 30-29. Since 2010, Plainview has gone a combined 58-31. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Plainview has gone a combined 190-88. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 3A and 41st in the AHSAA. The Bears have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. The Bears will be under the direction of new head football coach Nick Ledbetter as they enter the 2018 season. The Plainview Bears will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2018 season. The Bears should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bears have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2011 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Bears open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Collinsville on Thursday, August 23 at Cagle Civitan Stadium. Last year the Collinsville Panthers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 2A region six. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Valley Head by a score of 31-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Plainview and Collinsville have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Bears have a 12-14-1 record against the Panthers. They last met in 1979 with Plainview winning by a score of 28-8.
