2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Robertsdale finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Robertsdale finished ninth in Class 6A region one with a 0-8 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Golden Bears lost as many games as in any season since 2005. The defense allowed a team record 368 points last season. The Golden Bears have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2004 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Golden Bears last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Robertsdale averaged scoring just 12.8 points a game. The Golden Bears also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 36.8 points a game. The Golden Bears would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Robertsdale football program has struggled with a record of 18-62. Over the past 25 seasons, Robertsdale has not won much with a record of 72-173. Their 29.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 6A and 344th in the AHSAA. The Golden Bears have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2001. The Golden Bears will be under the direction of new head football coach Chase Smith as they enter the 2018 season. The Robertsdale Golden Bears will play in Class 6A region one during the 2018 season. The Golden Bears enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Golden Bears will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Robertsdale will be to simply win some games. The Golden Bears open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Mary Montgomery on Friday, August 24 at Grider Field. Last year the Mary Montgomery Vikings finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in ninth place in Class 7A region one. The Vikings closed out the regular season with a loss to Baker by a score of 40-0. Robertsdale and Mary Montgomery have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Golden Bears have a 4-7-0 record against the Vikings. They last met in 2013 with Robertsdale winning by a score of 45-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
