 2018 Preview

Washington County finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-6 record. Last year Washington County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region one with a 2-4 region record.

Washington County took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 1999. The Bulldogs lost as many games as in any season since 2008.

Since 2010, Washington County has gone a combined 75-26. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Washington County has managed to compile a record of 185-96. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 2A and 52nd in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach Devin Roberts who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-6 record in his first season at Washington County. The Bulldogs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Roberts.

Coach Roberts' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 3-6 (33.3%).

The Washington County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region one during the 2018 season.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Bulldogs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. Washington County came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

The Bulldogs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Citronelle on Friday, August 24 at Jordan Wilcox Stadium. Last year the Citronelle Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 5A region one. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Washington County by a score of 44-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Washington County and Citronelle have met a total of 53 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 18-33-2 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Citronelle winning by a score of 44-12.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
